That "cinema" mode is just presets for the brightness, contrast, color temp, etc. The 4805 may be different, but that's how it is with the X1 & X1a. We just made our own presets for day/evening/night.

The problems I run into really isn't with brightness though. Everybody here (read: people that don't live in this house) demands the maximum screen size (106" on ours)... and yeah, it looks awesome from the scale of it, it's our own private IMAX... but the pixel size gets kinda ridiculous

Only cartoon-ish stuff really looks great with that projector on that size screen.

You also have to look at the resolutions. The 4805 is meant to be a home theatre projector. That is one reason that it only has 750 lumens. Generally, more lumens=less contrast except in more costly projectors. The 4805 is a high-def projector and can therefore be projected, from what I have read, up to around 90" with very little pixelation. I have pretty much decided to go with the 1:1 screen from ebay. All of the reviews were done on a 1:1 ratio screen and the projector has received rave reviews for the most part.

Yeah my panasonic can do WXGA resolution (1280X720p) so it handles large screens pretty well without pixelation. It also has 'smooth screen' technology which is a bit turnoff IMO with computer.

Well, new roommate moved in, and we moved alot of furniture around, including our media/game room. Now we're seating 18. To compensate, the projector got moved all the way to the far back of the room & stuck on the ceiling. Our current 102" screen is to small now... we're up to around 130"-140". It's our own personal IMAX. Watched fight/battle scenes from Return of the King, Blade, & Band of Brothers... absolutely amazing. Pixellation wasn't even a big deal... which was really suprising because I was rapidly against moving the projector.

Roommate found a company that makes screens for real theaters. Supposed to be able to make any size screen out of any type of screen material available. As soon as I get more info I'll post it. We're discussing glass-matte, but the gain (1.8) is probably way, way to high regardless of how amazing it looks.

Tonight @ 7 or 8pm CST it's Red Flag: Thunder at Nellis on the Military Channel... I'm gonna make the whole house shake
