Why there`s nothing wrong with them Zulu.
Castro uses them all the time.
You might want to take a few of those when you are on your luxurios vacation to Cuba and Vietnam. Give them as a comrad brother gift to the old bearded one and ya`ll can sacrifice a chicken together.

you spend 40 years cooking with wood and coals, every day, 2 -3 times a day. then say that.

Cooking and grilling/BBQ`n are totaly different things.
Looking at it that way it might suggest that women actualy be allowed to BBQ. The horror. We gave them the vote. Look what that got us. Women must stay clear of the grills and smokers and stay in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant . :D

not arguing bout the women part. for most part none can cook worth a darn.

but not much difference, in cooking and grilling/BBQ'n, to those that do it every day.

point is, gas is less trouble to use.

and if you are in fact a good BBQer. most won't know the difference in what was used to BBQ with.

there IS a difference in a weekend BBQ warrior and a everyday BBQ master.

Phhhfffffttttt.
What respectable BBQ master and call`s himself that would use gas?
Unheard of.
Never ate BBQ anywhere that was cooked with anything other than wood that was anywhere close to being rightly classified as BBQ.
If I was in an unknown area and found a place to eat that was advertising itself as a BBQ restaurant , when I pulled in if I didn`t smell hickory, mesquite, pecan , etc. smoke, I would roll on down the highway.
Your idea and my idea of good Q must be worlds apart.

I dunno about using portable throwawy grills in Vietnam or Cuba? but they are bloody usefull things to take on a bike rally or to a circuit.  They strap to the luggage rack real nice and I've had BBQ at Spa francorchamp, Le Mans and Assen whilst everyone else was paying for overpriced grease balls at the food outlets.

:D

What's the difference....especialy if you like to actually taste the meat.

You can get all the same effects of charcoal on a gass grill by using briquets.  It is less of a hassle and you have better temprature control.

I rarely use charcoal for anything It's LP all the way.

Screw charcoal son. I`m talking wood here . I say I say ahhhhhhh BBQ wood.
Hickory , mesquite, pecan,etc, etc.
No possible way to get the flavor from gas. If it aint wood, it aint good.
