Gunnery: I think Im getting the idea?
« on: April 08, 2005, 02:30:54 PM »
Ive gotten to the point with gunnery lately that Im hitting things more often when I intend to. But I have several questions I'm confused about.

1. When I'm taking a snap shot or tracking shot at a con moving on my plain, thats close to my convergence distance, I should place my reticle dot center of the path the con is tracking when I lead it.  I think Ive been missing my shots by aiming high.

2. To damage or kill the con, I need to hold down on the trigger longer than 1 or 2 taps so there is a sufficient volume of projectiles down range to over come net lag, differences in game client processing, and miscalculations in my aiming assumptions? Ive been noticing with my P47 lately, if I hold down on the trigger a moment or two longer then I have been, I'm getting more assists, seeing parts fall off the con, and kills.

3. Is it HOing being able to calculate the lead to cut a cons tail or rudder off during a merge where the con is performing a HO evasion manuver?

1: if  the con is in your convergence and no other factors (hard turns, diving, high/low speed) then yes the center dot is your mark IMO.

2: yes, net lag can make or break a snapshot but its random and not regularly a problem for me with ping 140.  with snapshots it helps alot to yaw a little with the rudder as you fire to get more hits on the con, IE: spray and track the con at the same time. again, only IMO which is not gospel be any means.

3:yes ;)   but who cares a kill is a kill is a kill.

all just IMHO.

1. At your exact convergence, then yes. If closer, then reticle lower, if farther, then reticle higher. Consider that your convergence point is also your harmonization point (your bullets will fly higher than your GS center until they reach the harmonization point).

Lets say that my convergence is set at 300.  If I fire from D200, I have to aim lower????  Dont the bulets have to go up to meet the conv point since they are fired from a lower position than the ret?   I would think I would have to aim above the con, no?

Also, why is the bulet going to drop emedietly after the conv point?  Depending on the distance the conv is set, the bulets could keep going up before droping

Dedados, since the last change of convergence by HT, the convergence point is the same as the harmonization point. The firs is the point where your rounds cross horizontally, the second is the point where your rounds cross the GS center going down.

Your rounds first go up, travel over your GS center and fall below your GS at the convergence point.

Mando is correct, although personally I find that 300 and under for 13mm, 20mm and 0.5 cal weapons the amount of "arc" is small enough not to have to take it into account - I set my guns at 650 and then I def do have to watch where I place the pipper dependant on range.

I mostly enage at 600 and under, if the target is flying start and level and is showing d600 I graze the pipper on the upper surface of his tail, when it shows d400 the under surface, closer than that just aim straight at the target.

30mm is a whole diff ball game. I set for 600 but only fire from 200 except perhaps for buffs at 600.
