Is it possible to map the joystick so I can move my 'head' around the cockpit incrementely - say, click left once and the view goes 45 degrees left; and stays there...etc rather than snapping back to the front on release ? I've had a brief delve into the controls menus but can't see an option for this, or at least an option I recognise.

unfortunately not.

but here is an alternative solution.

in your stick mapping menu, select 'views', then hunt for the 'pan mode' view command. (default F8).

now map this to your stick on the desired button.

when you now look 45* backwards, you can press this 'pan mode' key and the view will lock where it is.  your hat switch will now control your head in a 'sticky' pan mode.

to revert to normal view mode press (default) F7 for snap, (default) F9 for instant.

either that or simply press F1 to reset the head possition to default front view with your previous settings before pan mode was enabled.

er...my wording is not simple, but the method is, try it and see if it helps :aok

As mentioned we can't do that without pan mode, which imo, is fairly slow. It won't let you track multiple bandits in different areas and will decrease your SA, situational awareness.

There is one possibility. I'm not sure how it will work, never tried it, and it will vary with the type stick you have.

Some sticks are programmable which may be used as an alternative to AH's stick mapping. Some of these have the choice to keep the key pressed as long as the button is held down, or toggle to turn on and off with each button press. Some offer a seperate programming setting for button press and button release.

On my stick I have a "pinky switch". What I did was to map it as a "forward view". So now when I look left with my hat switch, I also hit the pinky switch to get a "front/left" view or 45% off the nose.  It will stay as long as I hold it. This way I can get to any other view pretty quick seeing knowing whats around you COULD save you life :)
