Depends on the turbine (thrust, electronics, controls..) LePaul.  You can pay up to $25K for them.

I have nothing against ducted fan.  I used them for years.  One day a guy came to the field sporting a MiG21 (? not sure if that is the right number), and lit it up.  I fell in love immediately, and have been saving since then.

I bought my house last year.  One morning in May, I'm hearing this odd buzzing sound.  Then an hour later, kind of a whooshing sound.

I go outside and low and behold, I'm just across the field from the local RC Club.  Of course!  Great spot!  Right on the approach end of a very busy international airport!

Those guys have had some amazing planes up and flying.  Im not precisely sure what it was...either a Mig 29 model or a F-15...but it was deinately turbine as everytime and leveled out, man that thing just hummed along fast.  Then when he turned so the exhaust was pointed your way, ther was that unmistakable jet sound.

What's the "range" on a kit like that?  I imagine it wouldnt take much to get out of range and in trouble, radio wise...with the speed and all.

Sounds like a great hobby, Skuzzy.  I've got a friend who has a fe RC P-51s and the sort.  I'd love to get into it, once the current one is done.

Range is normally not an issue.  If you can see the plane, then you are usually good.  Most servos can be setup so the plane just flies in circles if it loses contact with the pilot.
A lot of RC pilots have two radios in the case.  Both with freshly charged batteries.  That way they can fly all day.  Or have a spare in case of damage.

It is an expensive hobby, but there are some great startup kits today making it less expensive to get into.  Just know, once you are in, you will be spending some money.

You can tell the guys that spend a lot of money on the hobby.  They spend more time in pre-flight and post-flight than the weekenders or starters do.

I built my planes from scratch so I know them well.  Converting the F15 to turbine is going to take a lot of time and work.

What kind of fuel do these planes use and how long can they stay in the air?

Hmmm...maybe I should switch to powered RC planes instead of the sail and slope gliders I fly now.

Isn't a big part of it the sound? To me, it's a big part of it having the jet sound like a jet. I have never flown an R/C aircraft though.
