Familiar with it yes.........However we don't have anything that would remotely work for that time frame. We would need I-15bis, I-16's, SB-2's, I-153's on the Russian side. The Russians had at least 5 squadrons of I-15's and 3 I-16 squadrons with at least one squadron of SB-2's. From what I have found on this side there are a couple of other squadrons which are unlisted for their aircraft.
For the Japanese we would need some Ki-27's and the "heavy bomber" of the time. According to some sources the Japanese only had four squadrons of Ki-27's available in the Nomohan Incident time frame. Also they had 4 light bomber squadrons and one heavy bomber squadron.
It has also been written that the Japanese pilots had over 1000 hours of training as compared to ~200 for the Soviet pilots at the time. This resulted in a vast difference in the kill claims of Japanese vs. VVS. The Russians claimed to have only lost ~250 aircraft and of those ~40 were non-combat related losses. Also it has been alleged that 4 Soviet aircraft were lost for every 1 Japanese aircraft lost.
But thats not going to be the setup...Although it would make an interesting late war what if setup if someone made a map and we used the 1944 aircraft of each side. Of course we would have to include the USAAF and RAF on the side of the VVS.
