Happens far too often.

And trust me, when they say "excessive force" they mean a Rodney King-style beating.  From what RPM said, it doesn't even come close.  And now you've gone from a bad situation to a felony.  No matter how wrong the cop is, go along with it and sue the **** out of them later.  Fighting with cops will only get you in deep, deep trouble.

sounds like you're as full of yourself as he is.  maybe next time, when he shoots you dead, it'll be his word against nobody's & he'll have as big a name in town as you think you have now

At least if that happens to you over here you won't risk getting shot! Just a good kicking!

The guy sounds like a fool who put on a uniform to make his willy feel bigger!

It is legal to resist arrest if excessive force is being used.

Yes... it's also an excellent way to get A. Killed... B. Your oscar kicked.
Win in court later.... survive the encounter now.

you were probly as wrong as he was but he should be held to a higher standard.

I think that you would be doing your community a disservice if you did not make the incident known with a report or letter to the editor.

RPM, what do you think would have happened if you had been someone from out of town who the second officer didn't know?

Drop his boss a note explaining what happened, and include your cop buddy's name so the chief can get his opinion. I don't know how Texas works but most States have probationary periods for new officers- if he gets too many complaints he won't pass his probationary period.

BTW, he's not typical of most cops- you guys can pig pile on police professionals but most are exactly that- professionals. I have nothing but respect for people that choose a career serving the public, and that respect isn't diminished because of one or two percent (maybe) of officers who make bad decisions, or let having a bad morning spill into thier workday.

Respect a cop.. cause they don't have to respect you...

Unless your packing a .45 while their still caring their glocks around..

I hate cops like that.. I would much rather deal with a steel eyed veteran cop then a gung-ho cop..

Of course, we all know we can outsmart the gung ho cops... they just take it as a threat...
