I'm runnin the nvidea 56.64 drivers and my 5200 ultra doin fine.
Almost afraid to run the 71.76  drivers, been wondering if it would make much difference.

61.77 is best for FX or lower cards.  For 6XXX series use the latest drivers.

Like dogg said.  61.77 for FX5xxx cards and older.  For FX6xxx cards, use the latest.  Be careful though.  NVidia introduced a severe bug in a couple of recent drivers which will cause your video card to run about 15 to 20 degrees (C) hotter than it did before and once installed, there appears to be no way to clear the problem.

I can verify using the 61.77 drivers on the FX5xxx cards.  Skuzzy suggested that for my rig and it has worked like a charm.  I can also verify the strange heat issue.  When i first installed the card and ran it for a while my temps were in the 45 to 50 range.  Ever since about 67.x something (I think) I run 57 or higher.  I think to only way to correct it is going to be to reload the whole OS.

It does not appear a re-install of the operating system will cure it either.  Apparently (and I am speculating a bit) the drivers store some information on the video card in non-volatile memory which is causing the heat issue.

The 61.77's are safe Deth and preferred as well, but if you are not having any issues, then stick with what you got.

Deth7, I used the 61.77 drivers for my FX5700 before I got my new card.

Scuzzy, have they ever fixed this? I just installed a 6600GT about 1 week ago and installed the latest released drivers that day. Card tuns fine

I am about to replace the mobo & processor with w/ a 3.2Ghz Intel. I bought a good heatsink/fan for it and my case has good cooling. But I'm concerned about this.

No way to kill/reload the NVram on the card eh?

61.76 is the Win98 driver.  61.77 is the WinXP driver.
