Black Days.....
« on: April 30, 2005, 05:14:33 AM »
/I'm having trouble with my clipboard map, icon colors. Base colors are ok. Goodguys green, badguys red, Vis range icon colors are good (green/red). But all dots on the map stay black.  Text bar prompt is black, gear position indicator on all GV's is black.
I cannot get a contrasting squad color to show-up on clipboard map, nor can I wingman anyone. Cons and friendlies show up black.
When I go to the "Icon color, selection panel" and adjust the three color bars, the 1" square color indicator block stays black. Even though different base color selections will apear on the map! All dot cons stay black, when selected adjustments are made. Very odd I think, but im sure it will be easy to fix. Any ideas?

My guess is you have an ATI video card and have installed one of the latest drivers or have very old drivers installed for the video card.

Try the 4.12 Catalyst drivers, if this is the case.

there was something special about the 4.12 drivers, Skuzzy?

I use an ATI 9700 (pro?)...was considering switching from Omega to ATI's drivers to see if my FR improved.

4.12 was just the last version (that I know of anyway) that was optimized for the 9xxx series cards.  After that they started focusing on the x800 and up cards (and of course the x300 and x700 series value cards).  Also the 5.xx series drivers brought back a nasty bug ATI used to have before in older drivers that mainly affects the older cards.

Actually Star, the 4.12's were optmized for the X800 series (not the X800XL however) as well as the 9600, 9700, and 9800 series.

It was the driver which contained the triangle setup optimizations which gave most all games a nice boost in performance.

The 5 series did indeed re-introduce the 'black dar dot' bug from the pre-Catalyst drivers.  However, it seems the 5.4's have corected this for the ATI X series, but not the older cards.

Brain quit funcioning for a minute.  Of course 4.12 works for the x800, its release was at the end of 2004.  Duh.  Either a brain cramp or too much tequila last night lol.  :)

Here is the 4.12 for WinXP Schaden

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=1328

And here's for Win98

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=1325

Note though that the date on the Win98 driver is from 2001 or 2002, as they stopped supporting 98.
