you ever think you'res lousy airport was cool and big?

jut or fun, here's my local airport (mitchell international in milwaukee)

notice the single large terminal. i zoomed out to show all the runways in one shot, but yes, that is all in terminals.

here's a shot of just the B, C, D, and E terminals of hartsfield international airport in Atlanta, GA
notice the large plane on the right

here's a zoomed out view of ATL, look for the "large" plane on the right for perspective......

amazing isn't it? i have looked at la guardia, dulles, lax, all the biggies, nothing compares to the magnititude of atlanta.

try using google maps, and look at the magnititude of it:

Unless your airport has a golf course inbetween the main runways (ref Bankok Int'l) ... I'm not impressed sorry.

How does the new big Denver airport stack up? Thats the one i'd guess could compete with Atlanta. The others mentioned are all older & are in cities served by multiple ports...google....yeah, denver is much bigger

denver got 6 runways, 5 are 12000' long, 1 is 16000'

atlanta got 4 runways longest is 11890' others are 10000', 9001' & 9000'

neither have an NDB approach

Atlanta doesn't need 16,000 ft runways. Denver does.

Something different about takeoff rolls at sea level and a mile high.

regarless of altitude it is still larger...Atlanta is more humid, that affects takeoff roll also...Kathmandu airport runway is only 10121'

What's that airport where traffic crosses the runway and they stop it when a plane is taking off/landing with just a couple swing gates like at a railway crossing. Think it handles Intl flights as well up to 777 sized aircraft.

Katmandu is 4390 ft in altutude. Denver is nearly 1000 ft higher. Denver has probably several times the traffic of Kathmandu as Denver is a hub airport.

El Alto airport in Bolivia has a runway of 13,123ft. It's altitude is 13,313ft.

Humidity effects density altitude, but altitude effects it regardless of weather.

Equipment using the facilities also plays a factor. The shuttle lands on a 15,000 sea level runway in Florida.

im not really concerned about the runway length, dulles has a super long one.

i dont think any other airport has as many gates / terminals as atlanta though.

i like KATL's 4 parallel runway setup, they can probably do more concurrent operation than KDEN, however, denver is bigger....no super big runways at KIAD....Kathmandu is a hub airport, for both Royal Nepal &[/b] Buddha airlines

KATL is one of the easiest in the world to operate an airline into and out of. They're adding a "commuter" runway on the south side and I believe they are building a "commuter" terminal down there too.

It's a good operation; I can't think of any airport that handles that kind of voume that works as well.

true toad, ATL is amazing

like i mentioned, denver might be spread out, but NO WAY they got the gates, or capacity of ATL

air travle amazes me and scares me at the same time. how in the world can they keep track of all of that with a human brain???

Denver taxi times can be excessively long because of their runway layout. Atlanta's a short taxi no matter which direction the wind blows.

I operated in and out of DIA enough to develop a basic dislike for its layout. It's just not as "handy" as ATL in any aspect.
