How do I examine my BIOS
« on: April 29, 2005, 09:42:47 AM »
To see what version I have?

Motherboard
Asus A7V333
Tired of adjusting my settings in game to acheive a tolerable framerate on a nightly basis so
Thinking of upgrading My CPU to the Barton 3000 and want to make sure my Current BIOS will support it.
checked on the ASUS website and had a link for
" how to Examine your BIOS" but that brings me to a page that has nothing about it whatsoever

Bios version should flash on the screen as you boot.... Right after video stuff if I remember correctly.... May have to CTL ALT DEL a couple of times to get it all.......

most ASUS boards use "delete"

when first booting your PC, there will be a text screen, and on it somewhere it will say "hit del to enter setup"

hit the delete key, and you will go to what looks kind of like an old DOS menu screen.

thats your BIOS
I don't know what to put here yet.

Dred I also advised him how to get to his bios:) and to use EVEREST  http://www.lavalys.com/  to get pertinent system info. Not sure if that is what he needs but its a decent for getting sys info.

Thanks for the info. Silat. got your Email, Thanks.

Oddly enough I found a program on my HD called "Asus Update"

Had it before then it actually Vanished on me and couldnt find it for the longest time. Then just a little while ago I found it again.

Did an online Bios Update and now know I have  version 1017 which means I now should be able to upgrade the CPU from the XP2100+ to the Barton 3000+

Anyway, thats the latest plan.

Question though.
when I pop in the new CPU will I have to make any Changes in the BIOS or should it recognise it automatically?

Watch it Drediock.

You now have your bios version, but the 1.01 and 2.0 are the motherboard revisions.

So the cpu needs up to date bios but also the 2.0 motherboard revision, you find the number on the motherboard somewhere.

yep that could be a problem,  hopefully its a 2.0 board, from the looking at the table above the 2.00 board will do a 333 front side bus compared to 1.01 which will only do a 266 fsb .if it is a 1.01  I *think* there are a few mobile xp proccessors that use a 266fsb, and are rated higher than the xp2600 that you *might* be stuck with .
