Well, I'll admit to having indulged in choosing my arguments to suit my mood at the time...partly because I was pissed off at your expressed attitudes regarding US foreign policy in the Middle East and wanted to retaliate

I was sincere then, and still believe, that the UK has wronged the Irish historically and that the republican movement has legitimacy in its historic grievances.
But, that said, sometimes when you have a pile of crap to deal with there's no way to avoid stinking. I don't know that there's a better way that the UK could have dealt with the issues of the last generation or three in Ireland. Perhaps not. Certainly I am aware their intent is well-meaning.
I do believe that Ireland should be united, but I'll admit I can't say there's a practical way to accomplish that at this point. The article seems to suggest your prods simply aren't going to allow it without hostility, and of course I agree that simply stepping out of the way would likely result in a bloodbath.
