It's just like you said!

Greetings,
Finally got my account up and running and flew for the first time today. Pretty cool. I mean, my gunnery sucks, Flying's not so great either, and my SA is for Sheet, but I still had a good time. Got HO'd a few times,  HO'd one guy, flew against the Red hoard, and no matter how high I was there were always a couple more NME's higher.
Do need to tweek the system..... getting some warp and  that 1 second feeze/pause which makes it a bit more difficult to hit anything..... or land..... or take off.....or just about anything else.
I was able to provide some amusement for those that killed me and was able to kill one or two myself. Much Fun.
:D

Keep at it.    It takes a long time to get used to the game.     I've just now have over a little over a year into it and still get my butt handed to me on a regular basis.

As far as your screen stutters go, do you have alot of prcesses running in the background?     Are you behind a firewall?   Is your AV program up and running?

Glad you had fun dude. Fly for your own enjoyment, and you'll always have fun. AND, don't listen to the 'hotshots', who always seem to pick on newbies.

Good luck out there.

Cya up.

14 months in. Never succeeded at boxed flight sim. Having tons of fun. (Run out of verbs?)

When you've had your fill of learning alone -- and what guy reads directions before absolutely necessary? -- find one of the trainers and set up an appointment. They will teach you basics of flight combat, so you begin to understand WHY you're dying so much. You'll get more kills, too. Master those lessons, go back for another session.

I waited FAR to long to start doing this, just my germanic stubborness, I guess.

For intermediate and advanced skill building I found working in the "schoolyard pickup game" atmosphere of the DA really helpful. I just recently figured out that while DA can be used for 1v1 ego clashes, most of the time there's a melee going on at the default base. Etiquette requires a check 6 challenge before shooting, though you can set up duel situations too. Otherwise, jsut fly around.

I've had good stick practice by playing "tag" with one of the good sticks -- follow them as if setting up tracking shot, while they fight somebody else. Helps figure how hard to pull, when to break, etc. If one move blows you away, then after their fight ask 'em how they did it -- people are generally VERy helpful.

BTW, if you want I'd be happy to give you a little fast forward by showing what I've learned so far....No warranty, though

WTG Skywolf.  The game sure is complex and the skill level of your opponants can be daunting at times.

FWIW, it took me almost 6 weeks before I could think clearly and remember to raise landing my gear.  Then another 11 months or so passed and I nailed my first kill. But once I did I finally felt confident enough to move forward and click [ONLINE]....

So good luck, chin up, cheerio and don't shoot pile-its hanging in the silk

p.s What's SA? I have a penpal who lives in Brasil and he can send me lots of stuff from SA if you or anyone else needs it
