Ya ever notice

How you never seem to have the camera rolling when you have your best fights (win or loose)?

I usually dont have my camera roling because I dont want to end up with a bunch of films which
(a)-I dont have any real use for and will probably never ever watch
(b)-Have no idea a week from now what fight was what.
Honestly I couldnt tell you two hours from now what fight was what.
(c)-I dont feel like going back and reviewing all the films  to get rid of the ones I dont want just so I can save the few I do want to keep.

As a result. I rarely have films of fights I'd really like to keep for review or entertainment

Therefore.

I respectfully and humbly request that after each filmed flight a screen come up, or a window pop up in the tower with a "Would you like to save this film?" And "Save/Save as" option.

This would be alot less hassle then going back later and trying to figure out what film is what.

Thank you

recording by default as a rule could end up being a bad thing sometimes.....

i never thought so until one night in the SEA.

ran film from start of the frame, 2 hours into it, my PC crashed, powersupply overheated.

when i got my PC back up, there was a 89MB AHF film in my films folder.

you wanna say taxing on a system to run a game an create a 89mb file also?

there are times when you can be in the air for over an hour easily, and that film would end up being huge.

now imagine all those films being written, then deleted, written then deleted, written, then deleted, over and over, it would fragement up your HD and be a general pain in the prettythang.

if is was to become an option, make it like flight preference "record film by default" as a checkbox
I don't know what to put here yet.

No no no thats not what I mean.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Keep the choice of whether to record or not as it is now

But when you DO record and the flight ends when your back in the tower I would THEN like the choice to save and name the film.

I just want the option to save and/or name the films after each flight

I still think it would be nice to have a pure gun camera option that records when you squeeze the trigger (and for a few seconds after).  It might also be need to have a rolling black box type set up that is constantly updating, but only keeps film once you start shooting.  It would keep recording is you took additional shots within like 30 seconds of the previous shot.

Don't know if I explained that well, but it's just a wish list anyway.

I programmed my USB Fighterstick to start  filming on pressing the trigger and stop film 10 seconds after release.  That seemed like a really cool thing to do!  What I found was that you really want the 10 seconds *before* pressing the trigger.

I like the idea of having the prompt to save the file name of the film when you stop filming or end up in the tower.

That's exactly the way Airwarrior did it, asking you after the flight.

If it doesn't detract from my frame rates or add PC woes then I'm all for it; it would be nice to have an option of saving a film. I usually don't remember to film my fights.

my mate has a digital camera, it has a quick shot option, the camera will take three shots when you press the button.

One a second before you pressed the one when you did and one a second after.

The reason it can do this is it has a buffer

Could we have a gun cam that kept a 10 second buffer so that when you shoot it saves the 10 seconds before the shot and after it....

Just a thought

or at least have it name the film by date & time maybe, in stead of film 1 film 2. etc......  At least the date stamp may revive our memory of what the helk we filmed this flight for!  lol  :)

If it's a digital camera, then the video buffer probably has a one-second memory. So it can drag what it saw a second ago into the file.
