New system help
« on: June 04, 2005, 09:45:22 AM »
OK 1st this isn't intended to start a flame war.
About 4 years ago when I set up my pc i fell for the rdram. so I am now abot maxed as far as I can upgrade. Example my motherboard fried about 3 months ago was a real pain to find a decent board that used rdram.
     wh:mad:

Now what I would like to know is .
  1. amd or intel amd 754 pin 64 or a p4 system
  2. good mother board for each. preferably with no onboard sound and vid. Also will be useing my fx5800 ultra agp vid card so please no pci express.
I am just looking for a good quality bord. I screwed up my last system with my ram choise. I dont want to do it with the wrong board this time.

              Thanx in advance

If I may make a suggestion, I think you are limiting yourself too much by saying either socket 754 or P4.  I would include the 939s in that as well, you can get a 939 board with AGP and the price isnt that much more than a 754 board.  The CPUs themselves have little difference in price.

Anyway, this is a good 754 motherboard for the price

And this one is much nicer, and I believe faster.  Plus I like Abit's overclocking tools.

Abit has always (in my experience) been rock solid, and I've heard good things about it from hardcore overclockers.  I have had good experience with the Biostar stuff (what I am currently using in my Socket A setup).

As for the P4 stuff, I'll leave that for someone who actually has experience with them and can recommend one for you.  I havent owned a Pentium since...........well, actually, I've NEVER owned a Pentium processor (except for a few I took apart and trashed).  Good luck!
