you don't believe in guilt by association?

That is the basis of the rico act and the basis for violation of parole when hanging out with a known fellon.  It is also the most valuable tool we have for aressting gangmembers.

A modern-day cowboy has spent many days crossing the New Mexico desert without water. His horse has already died of thirst. He's crawling through the sand, certain that he has breathed his last breath, when he sees an object sticking out of the sand several yards ahead of him.

He crawls to the object and discovers what looks to be an old brief case. He opens it and out pops a genie. But this is no ordinary genie. She is wearing an IRS ID badge and a dull gray dress. There's a calculator in her pocketbook. She has a pencil tucked behind one ear. "Well, cowboy," says the genie, "you know how I work. You have three wishes."

"I'm not falling for this," said the cowboy. "I'm not going to trust an IRS genie."

"What do you have to lose? You've got no water, no food, no transportation, and it looks like you're a goner anyway!"

The cowboy thinks about this for a minute, and decides that the genie is right. "OK, I wish I were in a lush oasis with plenty of food and drink."

Suddenly the cowboy finds himself in the most beautiful oasis he has ever seen and he is surrounded with jugs of wine and platters of delicacies. "OK, cowpoke, what's your second wish."

"My second wish is that I was rich beyond my wildest dreams."

The cowboy finds himself surrounded by treasure chests filled with rare gold coins and precious gems. "OK, cowpuncher, you have just one more wish. Better make it a good one!"

After thinking for a few minutes, the cowboy says,"I wish that no matter where I go, beautiful women will want and need me."

He turns into a tampon.

If the government offers you something there's going to be a string attached.

It can be argued that if yourdoing nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about.

That same logic could have been appplied to Nazi Germanys Gestapo, Soviet KGB, Saddams secret police, and our own McCarthy era.

And yes I am making that comparison because I see our government heading in the same direction.

He who is willing to sacrifice his liberty for temporary (and often a false sence of) security deserves neither liberty nor security.

And usually ends up with neither

I would agree.  I have no interest in giving the government more power.  I would use the rico act and such tho.

JB88, posting two pages from an article cut 'n paste style, without even making a comment or stating an opinion is pretty worthless.
Why not quote a paragraph or two, then post a link for reference? At least make a comment when you post stuff like that.

The difference of course is that we don't have a "Patriot Act" or feel the need for one.....

You made no attempt to discuss the Patriot Act. You just decided you would have another shot at Americans. Too bad your comment could be just as much or even more associated with Great Britain or any number of countries.

Better luck next time.

What part of "WE DON'T HAVE A PATRIOT ACT OR FEEL THE NEED FOR IT" are you struggling to understand?

The "Patriot Act" and those that feel it's are nothing more than bigots and fascists - if the shoe fits wear it.

Guess who's the "Evil Empire" for most of the civilised world these days.

with a nation as confused as yours is you may well have a "patriot act" and you may simply not know it.  as I understand it the anglican "patriot act" is being held each Friday in your local mosques.

A quote from the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001

Quote

(2) This Article confers power on any constable in uniform-

(a) to stop any pedestrian and search him or anything carried by him for offensive weapons or dangerous instruments;
(b) to stop any vehicle and search the vehicle, its driver and any passenger for offensive weapons or dangerous instruments;
and a constable may in the exercise of those powers stop any person or vehicle and make any search he thinks fit whether or not he has any grounds for suspecting that the person or vehicle is carrying weapons or dangerous instruments.
