Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

Make sure the service "Messenger" is turned off.

You can also download "HijackThis" and get rid of ALL that crap.

It is almost too powerful.  Use it wisely.

99taylor, there is a trojan out that well change a number of files and such. One of the programs it messes with is the hh.exe file you mentioned in the other post. Check here for more info and maybe some help.

Hijack this is also very good, but be carefull of what you change.

Another thing you might do, use This virus scanner . Its free, and what it doesn't clean up, it will give you links to pages explaining how to clean them out manually.

Hijack this is a very powerful program.  I use it all the time at work.  Damn employees always getting viruses and trojans.  hehe, it only takes one guy to get a virus that then spreads to all the other computers on the network.  I use a norton anti-virus, zonealarm and hijack this to help get rid of viruses.  Norton is used to identify the virus.  Zonealarm is used to prevent the virus from sending or receiving information outside my computer.  And hijack this is to help clean the registry of nasty re-install files.  Plus DOS and msconfig come in handy.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

I know others do not agree, but i ALWAYS run antivirus and firewall with AH.

I do not have to clean my machine of viri or trojans either.

I turn off my virus protection, but I'm behind a router which works as a very nice hardware firewall. I also never use Internet Explorer. I know you can set-up IE to block pop-ups and other badies, but it just too much trouble trying to stay ahead of the junk! I use Opera, which works very much along the same lines as IE, but without all the spam attacks. Altho it won't "sort" the HTC score pages

I use  FSAutoStart Before running AH. Its very easy to set-up, and very hard to screw up. Reason being is if you tell it to turn something off that you shouldn't, and your computer locks up, or crashes, all you do is reboot and everything is back to normal. It makes no changes to the registry. You can set it to clear your ram, close all unnessisary programs, then start AH, all with one clicl of the mouse. I use to rebot my computer before flying just to keep everything clean, but I don't have to with this program.

From what I understand, while running AH you are not subject to any possible attacks unless some one is activly seeking to hack your computer. Picking up viruses and spam and such is from programs you install, or malisious web sites that drop nasty stuff in through cookies and active X stuff. So as long as your not ALT/TABing out of the game a browsing the web, you should be pretty darn safe even with out virus and firewall protection.
