What the heck?

I've been at work for almost 2 hours now and I just heard reveille play over the loudspeaker at the ARB next door.

They sleep in now a days?

Depends....sometimes we had special ceromonies that called for a later morning reveille.  OR they just played the wrong track on the CD.  I've heard that before.

Gunslinger, keep in mind that it's not only the Air Force, but the Airforce Reserves. In SoCal.

They were sleeping in and probably had breakfast sent up.

What are you talking about?  All the reservists are in Iraq, it's just the janitorial staff screwing around in the office.

The only place I've been to were revelee was actually the time to wake up and start the day was at MCRD San Deigo.

Every other base it was to signify morning colors.....or something, I really can't remember.

It's played when the installation colors (flag) are raised. Everyone is usually already up and about doing their morning thing by then.

Edit: Given the choice, I'd sleep in.

IIRC The marines allways did morning colors at 0800 and evening colors at sunset.

Army, it's 0600hrs. We'd be in PT formation when the Colors were raised.

Having around the clock coverage hardly says the military is "lazy". Reveille means absolutely nothing when it comes to getting up for work. In my career field our work hours are based off of our flying schedule. Our hours can change from one day to the next depending on what we are flying and when we are flying them.

I think basic training is the only place that even uses reveille in that manner. It use to be played at like 4:30 or 5 in the morning.
