MUCH better WW2 Online performance :)
« on: June 12, 2001, 11:24:00 AM »
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW  I'm now getting better frame rates than I did in any part of the beta.  There's a thread at the sfi.com forum that had a link to a gforce tweak util and a program called cashman.  I installed all the stuff and did all the tweaking and I went from 8-15fps from before to 15-40fps now.  The cashman seems to have done the biggest bit.

Here's the weird part.  The initial start of the game is still slow, if not slower. But once I'm in the spawn load is alot faster.  The realy strange part is that the first time I spawn the fps suck bigtime 4-10 fps.  Then I exit the vehicle and respawn.  The fps jump up to the 20's and 15 in a battle.  Then I die and spawn again and the frame rates are even faster 25-40 in battles. Oh yeah, before I was in 800x600 w/ crappy frame rates, now I play in 1024 with faster  :)  Tonight I'll try going back to 800x600 to see if they get faster  :)

I'll post all the links when I get home, too busy today at work to do it from here.

 my system is....

p3-750
gforce 2 mx
256 ram

I've been using Cacheman for a few years. It can help improve your PC's performance anywhere from a lot to bucket loads.

or go to www.google.com  and do a search for "Cacheman Utility"

is this in infantry or flying?

I'll try the geforce tweaker and cacheman when I get home.

Flying still sucked for me, I think it's the amount of players in the area more than anything though.  all settings crush down to near 0 FPS over a fight and the game crashes.

Infantry is smooth for me though, at least in the small battle I was in.

I haven't flown yet, been getting off on tanking.  I like AH for flying WW2 for ground pounding  :)  I also had to tweak the ww2online.cfg file to make all my settings.exe changes to stick.  15fps isn't all that great, but it is playable and it's better than any frame rate I got in the beta.  heheh I started the beta last july or so and used to get 2 fps then  :) and that was b4 they had the online part going.

going home soon so I'll post a link when I get there  :)

Wow, thanks for pointing out this program.

I don't know enough to start meddling with the settings manually, but I selected the preset for 3D gaming, and got a 10+ fps increase in AH.

Cacheman only tweaks the use of the swap file, or harddrive use.  It doesn't improve raw fps though.  The reason you see such a great improvement of fps is because previously your harddrive was running quite a bit during gameplay.  Cache simply allows the harddrive to run less by putting frequently used data into ram memory, so it is quickly accessed.

If you have 512 MB ram you probably won't see much of an improvement with cache.
