Now that I am moving to the 20th century (as my kids say, they've given up on the 21st, lol) and getting a cable modem, I will be getting rid of aol. As I understand it, this delightful program has infected various places that no self respecting program would ever get into. Any tips on removing this? dhaus

Of course this is only one method of removing that pesky AOL.

The XP uninstaller does a remarkably good job of removing it. Just make sure you remove anything in the add/remove programs area that has anything to do with it, including AOLCoach, etc. After uninstalling everything, remove all registry entries to AOL, AOL toolbar, AIM, etc. I like either Regsupreme Pro or Registry Mechanic for getting rid of it. RM does a better job (IMO), but it costs money. Regsupreme Pro does almost as good a job and is free. Manually delete any leftover folders or files and defrag. You should be clean.

Using a registry cleaner after uninstalling is an absolute must. I don't have AOL and haven't since Air Warrior when it was the only way to fight, so I don't know what to direct the registry cleaner at.. AOL, I don't know, but probably that would work. Once the registry cleaner removes any mention of AOl from your computer, you'll be clean and ready to go.

I use JV16 Tools and I can type in anything I want to serch the registry on and then remove all the entries. I'm sure other products will do the same
