Well, the other night I was flying over a base in my G10, hovering above a bunch of LTARs who were all intent on shooting me down, when I noticed something a bit odd. The icon range indicated I was 1.5K away from this Osti on the ground when my altimiter said I was at 7K and the base was at 3K. Being that I was 4k off of the field, how is that guy only 1.5K away from me? I was almost directly over the top of him.
Good part was that they didn't manage to kill me, allbeit not from the lack of trying. A man could walk 10 miles on those tracer rounds that they put in the air.
he was in the 1.5k - 2k icon range. 1500 - 2000 yards not feet.
icons are in yards.
that means he was 4,500 - 6,000 feet away from you.
altimiter is in feet. if you are 3k alt you are 3000 feet.
since you were 7000 feet, and the base was 3000 feet he was 4000 feet away from you.
thats something alot of people forget about. especially in planes. getting hit from 1k by .50 cals is being shot from 3000 feet away.
thats .6 of a mile almost
