Not really "War Film" though.  He retired as a Brigadier General in 1968.  He'd gotten his Mach 2 pin in a B58 Hustler and flown in 52s as well

He's also done the Monty Stratton story.  Stratton being a wartime P38 pilot who lost a leg, but was able to return to major league baseball as a pitcher.  And of course he did the Glenn Miller story.

I always think it ironic that his first film after returning from the war was "It's a Wonderful Life" where he portrays a guy who was 4F while his brother goes away to become a war hero pilot.

(like dred, there are too many , but i'll throw a few out there).

I like oldies as well. In the older films, Bogie, Wayne, Stuart and Peck.

In the newer stuff, Hanks, Nicholson, Eastwood and Deniro.

You guys picked a lot of my favorites and I think that Willaim Hurt deserves a space in there as well.  I always liked watching his movies.

O ya and I forgot the name of the black guy in Shawshank redemption   he's great as well.

Oh  and George C. Scott.  How could I forget him!

As an actor, I do like Tim Robbins.

It seems everything Johnny Depp is in impresses me.

George C. Scott gets a nod.

Bill Murray is quite good.

Those are a few of the top of my head.
