Chinese Navy Emerging as a Serious Threat to American Carriers!

8 March 2005 - One of our agents in the Far East informs us that the Chinese Navy is now operating nuclear submarines they have purchased from Russia, around Taiwan, making it extremely dangerous for American aircraft carriers to operate within 500 miles of that island nation.

Furthermore, China AND Iran have purchased quantities of cruise missiles from Ukraine.  These missiles, similar to the American TOMAHAWK, are capable of 1,500 mile range.

With such an incredible amount of goods purchased by Americans and others that have been made in China, the Chinese have huge amounts of fresh income to spend on these new weapons programs.

Details are on the Sharkhunters HOT MAIL system and even more are in the monthly KTB Magazine of Sharkhunters received by some 7,000 Members in 71 countries.  click here for more information.

I-401 is Found!

20 March 2005.....I-401 was one of three huge Japanese submarines taken by the US Navy at the end of the war, studied and eventually scuttled in deep water.  This boat and her sister I-400 had watertight aircraft hangars that housed small floatplanes which were to be used for scouting.  These boats were surrendered to US Navy forces at the end of the war, taken back to Hawaii to be studied then because the Soviets were demanding access to these boats, they were taken out to sea on 31 May 1946 and used as torpedo targets of USS CABEZON.  Below is a photo of one of the AA guns taken by HURL (Hawaii Undersea Research Lab).

More information about this discovery will be in KTB #183.

Back to Prison!

15 March 2005 - Right wing German activist Manfred Roeder just received word that he must report to prison to serve yet another prison term in Germany.  He must report to the prison gate no later than Easter Monday to begin serving his sentence of ten months.  Naturally, he will report as ordered and hopefully will be treated as a Trustee which means that he could possibly be granted a couple week-ends out of prison during his sentence.

AMERICA to Be Sunk

7 March 2005 - The huge aircraft carrier USS AMERICA is scheduled to be sunk in the next few months - by the U.S. Navy!  In a series of top-secret tests, this ships will be sunk to evaluate how various types of ordnance would effect a ship of that size in combat.  The tests are estimated to cost some $22 million dollars.  Many who served aboard this carrier during her long and shining career are sad to see their old ship being deliberately sunk and many others are quite displeased that a ship with the name of her nation will be sunk.  They remember that Hitler changed the name of the pocket battleship DEUTSCHLAND to LÜTZOW for that very reason - he felt it would have a negative effect on morale if a ship with the name of the country would be sunk but now America the country will be sinking the ship that bears her name.  It's food for thought.......

If you were receiving our daily HOT MAIL updates over the Internet to your emailbox, you'd have had this on your computer this morning rather than having to click on this site.  Check the details above.

U-Bootfahrer Nearly Killed

Mid-December 2004 - A U-Boat veteran who rode the boats from the first days of the war until his boat was sunk and he was captured, was nearly killed.  He was visiting the graves of friends when he slipped and struck his head on a tombstone when he fell.  There was a great deal of blood, but they rushed him to a hospital and stitched him up and took care of him, saving his life.
The full story is in KTB #181.

Bad Luck JFK

We have already read that the Skipper of the American aircraft carrier USS JOHN F. KENNEDY was relieve of command in 2001 due to a failed inspection.

Then in August 2004, the next Skipper, Captain Stephen B. Squires, was relieved of command due to an Arab dhow being able to get close enough to the carrier to allegedly hit the ship.  Whether the dhow did or did not hit the flattop was not as important as the fact that it did apparently get within mere feet of the ship.....too close for security.

And now it is the Commanding Officer of VF-103, the famed "Jolly Roger" Squadron made famous in the movie "the Final Countdown" in which a time warp takes the carrier back in time to December 7th, 1941 and the F-14 fighters of this Squadron were attempting to intercept Japanese Zero fighters over the Hawaiian Islands.

Captain W. R. Massey, Deputy Commander of Air Wing 17, has temporarily replaced Commander Guy Maiden as Commanding Officer of VF-103.  Commander David Landess is en route to the carrier to assume command of the "Jolly Rogers".  Commander Maiden will be temporarily reassigned to duties in the United States.  (Translation - banished to a desk job near the exit door).

The relief of Commander Maiden was an administrative taken by Rear Admiral Barry McCullough, Commander of the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY Strike Group after a review of the investigation into circumstances surrounding the incident stating that the U.S. Navy takes these incidents very seriously and holds service members accountable.

So what horrible thing did Commander Maiden do that cost him his command and most probably his career in the U.S. Navy?  Here is what our friend aboard ship reports as the scuttlebutt, although not released as fact.  It is alleged that Commander Maiden was returning from liberty and did not have his identification card on his person, and a scuffle ensued with a 'foreign national security guard' and the rest, as they say, is history.

EDITOR NOTE - As we have said repeatedly, peacetime service is a pile of chicken $&#@ and stuff like this punishes highly-skilled American servicemen who have been trained at great expense to the taxpayer, for minor incidents that, in other times, would have been quickly overlooked or punished with the old slap on the wrist.  Perhaps being "warm and fuzzy" to the 'foreign national security guard' is far to the extreme and too important to Admirals as opposed to the cost to train a USN Commander and Squadron commander - and the cost to the morale of the troops, which we assume took another hit.

Thanks to our friend aboard ship for this report.

Together

The German U-Boat-Archiv under the direction of HORST BREDOW (21-1983) has gotten so big, it is outgrowing its space.  The museum of Peter Tamm, the most awesome naval museum in the world, has likewise outgrown its space.  What were these two old friends to do?

The got together and got a huge building in Hamburg.....some 15,000 square meters, and they will be moving their items in shortly.  From what we understand from HORST, each will be separate from the other in the legal sense but the entire place will be together for public viewing in this huge facility.

HORST tells us that 2006 is the planned opening for this super Archive/Museum.

On Eternal Patrol

Admiral "Pete" GALANTIN USN - Retired) has received his final orders, and is on "Eternal Patrol".  The Skipper of USS HALIBUT during World War II and Sharkhunters Member since 1995, has passed away.  We met Pete and Mrs. Galantin at the Submarine Birthday celebration some years ago at Kings Bay Submarine Base.  At the dinner, many submarine officers began throwing bread rolls at one another - an old Annapolis tradition.  Not to be outdone by the younger officers, Mrs. Galantin began throwing whole loaves of bread!  Godspeed "Pete", and we wish you fair winds and following seas.
