IIRC you are a Vikings fan from NJ?   And now a NJ-ian just bought the team.

Not that I think he will be moving the team to NJ, but it must be kind of nice to have a fellow NJ guy own them.    Maybe you'll get more coverage in the local press.

Losing Onterrio Smith and Moss hurts; I hope the improvements they made on defense will outweigh the losses.   Culpepper had a good season last year and if he's even better next year we should have a shot at getting further in the playoffs.

Plus, he's talking about an open-air stadium to recreate the mega-homefield advantage Vikings teams had in the 70s.   Seems like some of the 'toughness' of the team was lost with the move indoors.

Yup Im a Vikes fan from NJ.

Its cool that a Jerseyan Bought the team but its not all that important to me. I just want em to win.

I hope they dont move. Not even to Jersey. They belong in Minnesota.
I do hope he brings a little NY NJ attitude to the area.
one thing we have little tolerance for in these parts is non performers.
Or people with Moss type attitudes. If Moss was bugged by the media there, the media and fans here would have given him a nervous breakdown.
Not saying that other parts of the country arent like that too. But I see alot of stuff they do there that is nice in comparison to how they are here.
We're willing to put up with the off feild antics but antics like walking off the feild before the game was actually over would not have  gone over well here at all.

One thing I would like to see is them get a new stadium, preferably outdoors. I think the team has been sissified somewhat by the dome. Too much fenesse not enough barbarism.
And Im all for the Bud Grant doctrine of No heaters on the sidelines.:)

Smith is a loss no doubt. I liked him better then Bennet.
but this is a classic example that going through college may make you educated but doesnt make you smart. And what we have here is an educated idiot. Damn shame. the skies the limit for this kid. Lets hope he wises up.
In any event Moore looks very very good also so as long as the RB group and the O line stays reasonably healthy I think we'll be more then ok in that dept

I see the loss of Moss as a positive. He just never grew up and became too much of a distraction. I personally think they play better as a  TEAM without him.

Im sure they will get more coverage around here at first but it will quickly peter out unless they do really really well.

Everything around here is just too much Giants/Jets/Eagles

I'm not sorry to see Moss go either - he lost me completely as a fan when he gave the traffic cop a ride on the hood of his car rather than obey her directions.    Sadder still was that he wasn't punished for it, by the local law enforcement or the Vikings organization.   He'll probably have a very good season with the Raiders and that's fine by me.    The Raiders should always be a deep threat team anyway.

Not sure what I'll do this year without Monday Night Football though.    That's a bigger disappointment to me than anything.

In order for Moss to have a good season, the Raiders need a Quarterback and a running back, they have neither.

Don't worry, they won't be moving the team.  In fact the NJian
in question has a couple jets in my hangar and we've already
been given the headsup for Sunday flying.

Plus the mechanic told me they were arranging for temp space
in a Minneapolis hangar for the Falcon 50...for the games.

I have basic cable - just because internet cable modem service is cheaper with the cable package than alone.   I just can't justify spending all that on cable; I think it would be $20 more a month for the next step up in service - I'll check again when football season is closer.   But I doubt I'll feel rich enough to spring for it.

Why the heck kill ABC Monday Night Football?  Chasing the almighty $$ I guess.    Hope it backfires royally for them.

Damn you cable service sucks.
ESPN and ESPN2 are part of my basic package.
ESPN has always been part of basic cable for as long as its been around here. As has Discovery channel

Need to gt on your local polititions.
I know in our town there was a bunch of things we didnt get till the township threatened to not allow comcast have their service in our town.
As a result we got. the history channel. AMC, TCM, Discovery and a bunch of other stuff including a channel for the HS students to play with for their own productions, and another channel for the township to broadcast town meetings and such.
We get something like 98 channels in total in  our basic package.

ESPN and ABC are now both owned by Disney. I seem to remember hearing ABC was actually loosing money on the MNF broadcasts and for whatever reason they made the switch to ESPN.
Either way in the end the money goes into the same pockets

BTW Oboe. whats been the general reaction up there in Viking country to the sale and the departure of Moss?

Im sure you get a ton more insight then I.
though I try to visit the Star Tribune site up there as much as I can I know least around here newspapers tend to jade things to the point that even on the rare occasion they are totally accurate in their reporting you really dont get a true feel for whats going on.

98 channels in Basic?   Wow.   I think our basic package is around $14, and includes such gems as the local high school and schoolboard access, CSPAN, the Spanish Channel, NASA, and home shopping network.    I just don't watch that much TV.

The reaction to Moss's trade was mixed - half the people I talked to thought it was a big mistake, saying you just don't give up talent like that.   But the other half wasn't willing to overlook what a poor player attitude he had, no matter what his talent.   I can't believe how he got away with the "I play when I want to play" statement.   I think if I was coach I woulda benched him for a game for that.     Quite a few people didn't think we got enough for him.   I don't know that much about Napolean Harris but I hope he plays like Ray Lewis!

I think most people wanted a local new owner after Red McCombs turned out to be disingenious in trying to move the team to LA after he couldn't get a new stadium deal out of the public.   The local sports columnists really turned against him.   Ziggy seems like an OK guy, at least much more talkative than Reggie Fowler was.   I think he'll just concentrate on the team and make sure they have a good season this year, and if they do well, he'll start turning the screws to get a new stadium out of the public next year.

I hate Disney.
