Bad lag
« on: May 31, 2005, 06:09:19 PM »
Well i'm not sure what it is really but everytime I close in on a bandit, happens alot when it's bombers, and when I pull the trigger I'll get lag, screen stutter and I end up missing em or overshooting. That is problem #1. Problem #2 I'll be slashing through a furball and I'm cycling through my views I'll get stuck in one view for a couple seconds usually I come out and can continue the fight. Once though I got stuck in my in my forward right view for about 6 sec. and I guess I was still moving my joystick because when I finally unfroze I it seemed like I was moving at warp speed seem like the game was trying to place me where I should of been had I not froze. I was in a right hand bank gentle turn then came out roling to the left, back to the right, then blam mother earth all at fast forward.

System specs:

Dell Dimension 8200 P4 1.7Ghz
256mb rdram
32mb Nvidia Geforce MX 4X
Windows Me
DirectX 9.0c

I know this isn't the sharpest system by todays standard but AH1 was fine for me. Also my net status is good and ping is always 60-75. Any help is appreciated.

Hate to tell you but its more than likely your video card thrashing in a grahics heavy environment.  A 32MB card is the bare minimum for play.  256MB of RAM doesnt help either, as your card doesnt have anywhere to swap out textures.  Everything is going to be hitting your hard drive constantly.  Its going to totally overwork that poor 1.7 processor.  Now there could be other reasons.  I'm just pointing out the most likely.  Whether you did fine in AH1 or not is totally irrellevant, might as well consider them different games.  Other causes could be bad or wrong drivers for just about any piece of hardware, overheating of the video card or the CPU, bad memory............the list is almost endless.  Try sending in a copy of your Direct X Diagnostic report.  It will have your hardware listed and all the drivers so Skuzzy can check it over.  Also let him know what kind of settings you have ingame, as you should be running bare minimum settings with your rig.  It should work, but dont expect miracles.  :)

Good luck!

Thanks for your input Star of Africa. Btw under my start tab I go to Run type in dxdiag and get the DirectX diagnostic tool but nowhere do I see a diagnostic report....unless its the whole thing that comes up. And if it is how do I send it in. Also my setting ingame for the sliders is almost all the way to the right toward more performance for graphic detail, same with display object size and ground object range is also toward the right but the slider is from my guess set at about 1.5k -2.0kish.  Thanks and once I figure out how to get this report posted I'll post it and your help would be appreciated Skuzzy.

You should also make sure your video card settings are geared more toward performance.

You can also turn down the acceleration on your sound card a notch or two and see what happens.

It worked miracles for me.

Man its 4pm here in California so its 6pm over there in Texas so everybody is prolly home at HTC.  Well as you all know I've got problems with screen freeze. Emailed Skuzzy my DX report and he told me I had multiple instances of of my Nvidia driver installed.  Did what he told me and downloaded Driver cleaner, cleaned things out. Reinstalled the drivers. Now the game won't boot, I get the small application window while its loading then it goes full screen sometimes its white, sometimes its black but in the end all I get is my desktop.:(  Anybody got any ideas? I even uninstalled the game and reinstalled it but alas no luck. I'm about to take a hammer to my damm puter. I'm lucky to get an hour a day to play and wanna play before my girl gets back. Thats why I can't wait until tomorrow. Thanks

p.s. I'm not blaming you Skuzzy, I know too many varibles involved. I just wanna get in the air .

p.s.s. Everything else works fine, even TK guess I could go fly f-86's but no one is ever on. And its nowhere near as fun to fly as props are.

Depends on what driver version you are using?  Try this one:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_61.76.html

Do the uninstall, run the driver cleaner.  Then install this one.  See if it works for you.  Also try turning down the sound acceleration in the Direct X diagnostic utility, as was suggested earlier.

I feel your pain.  Wife is working short hours right now and it seems like the second she gets home I have stuff to do and cant get back on until late.  Then I have to worry about getting enough sleep so I dont fall asleep at work lol.

32MB vidcard is advertised as basic system requirement to play the game.  I think what's important and missing is what aspects of the game that card will and will not play.  If is is basic requirement IMO it should play every aspect of game.  Also  as mentioned by Lien,  the variables.  Too many variables to list is more like it,  so much for plug and play!   Why should you have to tweak and tweak and tweak ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

This may or may not be similar to what you guys encounter when you run the game and I'll try to explain the best I can.  All systems are different I understand that but I had no problem getting into the game and playing it before taking the actions stated below. Being able to play is when I encountered my initial problems. As of right now the game will not even load. I was told by Skuzzy that I had multiple instances of my nVidia driver installed. I was then instructed to remove all nVidia drivers on my system using the Driver Cleaner tool. Next step then was to install either driver version 61.76 or 61.77. I could not find a version 61.77 so 61.76 is what I opted to go with. Now as per the readme file that came with Driver Cleaner, which I got from http://www.drivercleaner.net, I turned off my router, then went to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and removed any Nvidia stuff I found. The system then prompts me to reboot to complete uninstallation. I then reboot but into safe mode as the readme file says to do. Now I run the DC tool (actually its the DC professional edition) using all the nVidia type filters. It does its thing. Now the next step is for me to empty my recycle bin but nothing is in there to empty so then I installed the previously downloaded v61.76 driver, reboot, go to run the game merrily thinking i'm gonna have a good time but no luck face full of desk top.Tthe game won't load. Now as I was writing all this I went back into the DC pro help I saw this "Note: Do not use the ATI IGP cleaning files (3) and nForce Chipset cleaning files (3) if you don't have that chipset. It is possible that these chipsets use drivers that other chipsets also use. Using the cleaning files with Raid in the name could cause that Windows can't boot anymore." Well as previouly stated I ran DC using all the filters with nVidia in the name. I guess I got partially lucky my system didn't get zapped. Did doing this cause only AH to stop functioning? And if so how can I fix the problem? Sorry for the long write up. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

since you had multiple nvidia drivers it is possible AH is trying to use the wrong one, which is not there any more....

possible solution...

go to c:\Program Files\HTC\Aces HighII\Settings

delete the file video8.cfg

also empty the cache folder

then try to start AH
I don't know what to put here yet.

Is your sound working ok?  The only thing I can possibly think of at the moment is that you maybe uninstalled your sound card drivers as well?  I know AH wont run without a sound card installed.

Its a Dell, with a P4 motherboard and processor, so it cant  have an Nvidia chipset (my first thought when you said you removed "everything Nvidia").  Dell's use Intel.  Even onboard video should be an Intel chipset, not Nvidia.  I cant think of anything else in the computer that should be running Nvidia drivers.

One other thing I'd try is reinstalling Direct X.  Sometimes during driver uninstall and re-installs, Direct X files can get corrupted or old entries can get left over and not point to the right drivers.

66.94 did the trick..........
« Reply #14 on: June 03, 2005, 09:52:39 AM »
Well after two days of not being to get the game to boot and being told that v61.77 should do it for me, I said screw it and downloaded v66.94 from the nVidia archive section. That did it. Was only able to play for about 45 mins. last nite but everything looks okay. Killed three bandits and no stutter or freeze yet but it can come and go so we'll see. I noticed some transparent textures off in the distance but I'll trade that for the probs I've been having for the past couple days. You've all been most helpful. Thank you.
