Now that I look at it, armament tests do seem likely...good eye Pongo!

I see a lot of HEAT round damage with resultant spalling. Maybe 1 sabot penetration on the left side above the track housing. But I see an SA-2 in the background. Where is this tank located?

Does not look like the right gun barrel on it.  I am with Pongo.. .Looks like it was used to test new weapons .

Seeing how it looks like there are no secondary explosive damages, and the tank looks fairly intact, I say they were doing Sabot penetration testing with warheads that had reduced/no explosives.

But man, is the armor on that tank thick! Makes the Sherman look like a thin tonka.

You go back to your starwars conferention

MisterFork, I don't think they did not use explosives, just look at the HEAT impacts.
And seeing no secondary explosions proves nothing, I doubt the shell could tear the tank apart from the inside (crew would possibly die)
Because the armor is just too thick to be blown apart.

Might just aswell be normal armament tests WITH explosions.

There was a rather good post awhile back illustrating to everyone graphically how HEAT damage, Sabot Damage, and HE damage appears on homogenous steel. If anyones got the link, fire it up.
