Ditch model

Can somebody explain to me what the ditch model does? I was at a enmy base, and hit an il2 with about 2 seconds of full blast in my typh this should of blew him up from d400 hitting all of his cockpit range. But no simply his wing falls off he falls gently back down a good 100 feet. On to WATER, and ditches. Im sorry but if your shot ditching in the water, even hitting the water at that speed and that height, should be a death. Not mentioning the 20mm holes that was probally all in you. I think ditching on the water should be taken out.

seconded!!!!!

the part about water i mean. the rest of it jet, no offence is a whine that gets posted a lot, sorry bud.

anyway, AH must have water we can sink in. right now, it will just take off gear if u land on it. if this is too complicated, and i appreciate the fact that it may be, could a code be written in so if u land in water u die. just a a temporary fix, until we have real water?

Didn't get a kill huh?:D

The IL2 is a tough bird. I have hit one 3 times with an ack and it flew away with a smoking engine. Hit one twice and it just flew away.

I hit a tiffy once and it's toast...just the way I like 'em. :aok

i dont got enough perkies as it is and i like upen my lancs to kill 1 dang t 34 or wirble its fun droping 42 bombs

There is something screwy with ditches.  I took a GV from a spawn point to defend a nearby field.  The field was captured so I ditched (I was never hit) and I was killed by someone.  But last weekend I saw a shot up enemy land in the water near a frendly base (nme base to him) with a ditch and no one was awarded a kill.

If someone else had actually done damage to him, they likely got the kill. If he smashed into the water and died, that's hardly a ditch issue. Also, if you think back to the days before they changed ditching, quite a few planes could not be landed successfully if there was any damage to the landing gear. I'll take losing an occasional kill to ditching as opposed to blowing up on the runway because a few mg pings damaged my tailwheel. It may not be perfect as it is, but it's certainly the lesser of the evils.
