How do I add more airfields?
« on: June 14, 2005, 11:19:46 AM »
Hello guys!

I know how to make a basic terrain with one airfield, one headquarter, and one town (for the maproom) for each country.

However now I'm trying to make a terrain that would have three airfields for each country, but only one airfield is usable, and works, in each country, the others are just there on the terrain but you cannot use them, you cannot select them in the clipboard so you can take off with a plane from there.

Could you please tell me what to do to make them all work as they should?

Thank you!

When you place them you have to give them a different number. for 3 fields per country you should have gone up to 9 on field numbers.

Hello Raptor!!

Thank you for reply!

Well after reading your answer, I went back and started to play in TE again, even though I didn't quite understood you perfectly, I got the idea that it's about Fields and I think Zones as well.

The terrain I'm working on is a small H2H one, it involves only two countries (Bishops and Knights).

Now I said that I went back and playing... well after doing all kinds of combinations of Zones and Fields, cannot actually figure out how to set those up so I get what I want.
Bishops should have three airfields, and same goes for Knights, and Rooks nothing, as I said only two countries.

I get all kind of weird setups, involving all three countries, but never get all three airfileds on one side for Bishops, and all theree on the other side for Knights.

Can you explain me in detail, step by step please?!

THANK YOU!!

According to Htc, each country must have a minimum of 1 HQ and 1 airfield.  There are some old post that say you can do it with only 2 countries but why bother making a terrain that might break later when you can hide the third country off map.  Scroll out beyond the edges of your clipboard, set some land tiles etc.

I’m guessing your airfields show up but don’t belong to the right country.  Go to the Fields MENU and change the ownership for the fields.  If you like, this is also where you disable planes and vehicles.  Be sure to save and exit before you try to build, then come back and build it.

Recently Skuzzy posted that you shouldn’t put things too close together or strange things can happen.  This was in response to a post where one of the HQs failed to show as it turned out to be too close to other objects.

The rest of the stuff you said you’re doing sounds right as far as it goes.

Wait, when you set the airfields, did you change the numbers?  If not, select the Objects tab and for each field, check that you have a different field number for ownership and that the zones are correct.  Also, make sure the HQs (and other strat) are owned by the Countries, not airfields, and that the zone and country ownership is correct.

Here are some of the settings that I used. So maybe this way is more clear of what I am doing.

Bishops
-------

One Headquarter with the following setings:

Object Type: HQ
Field Owned unchecked
Coutry 1
Zone 1

One Town with the following setings:

Object Type: Town
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 1

One Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 1
===========================================

Knights
-------

One Headquarter with the following setings:

Object Type: HQ
Field Owned unchecked
Coutry 2
Zone 2

One Town with the following setings:

Object Type: Town
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 2

One Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 2
===========================================

The above settings work perfect, no problem. The problem arises when I place aditional airfields. You were right Easyscor, when I place more airfields I cannot control which airfield belongs to which country. That is the problem, and that's because I am a bit confused about Fields and Zones, I kinda get the big picture, but not good enough.
So, I think my issue is missusing Field and Zone values. As soon as I am adding more airfields, they get all mixed up, don't belog to the countries that they should.
======================================================================================

So when I place aditional airfields my settings are as follows (one example):

Bishops
-------

One Headquarter with the following setings:

Object Type: HQ
Field Owned unchecked
Coutry 1
Zone 1

One Town with the following setings:

Object Type: Town
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 1

1st Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 1

2nd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 1

3rd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 3
Zone 1

===========================================

Knights
-------

One Headquarter with the following setings:

Object Type: HQ
Field Owned unchecked
Coutry 2
Zone 2

One Town with the following setings:

Object Type: Town
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 2

1st Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 2

2nd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 2

3rd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 3
Zone 2
===========================================

With the above settings all three countries are represented by two airfields each.
Also the airfields are mixed they do not belong to the country they should, and hence I don't have only two countries as I want.
======================================================================================

Now, with the following settings the airfields belong to the corect country.
I have two countries, each with three airfields, but cannot select the airfield I want to take off from.I can only take off from one airfield.

Bishops
-------

One Headquarter with the following setings:

Object Type: HQ
Field Owned unchecked
Coutry 1
Zone 1

One Town with the following setings:

Object Type: Town
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 1

1st Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 1

2nd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 2

3rd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 3

===========================================

Knights
-------

One Headquarter with the following setings:

Object Type: HQ
Field Owned unchecked
Coutry 2
Zone 2

One Town with the following setings:

Object Type: Town
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 2

1st Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 1

2nd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 2

3rd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 3
===========================================

Now I wonder waht would be the proper way to set those airfields...
I tried many setups, but these are the ones that I tried lates...

Well guys Thank You for your interest in this, hopefuly with your help can get this working.

HQs don't work right in H2H and they add to the puffy ack so it's better not to have any. Factories & citys are also optional unless you want to have working strat which would also require roads and convoys to function and very few in H2H understand strat anyway. If you dont have any strat you can just leave everything in zone 1 and it doesn't matter. All feilds, HQs, citys, towns and factories should be defined as "group master" each field must have a different number.
To determine who the field belongs to go to settings/field setup, highlight the field in the list and click the original country button. Restart the editor for changes to take effect.

ok I see what you are doing wrong. the Bish fields are fine, now go to where you placed the knight fields and change them from field 1,2 and 3 to 4, 5 and 6. Rook fields should be 7, 8 and 9

Hi guys!

Well it looks like is getting somewhere now, but is not working correctly yet.

Hey Zmeg, nice to see you!
Honestly I don't even know what strat is...

Raptor! I followed your instructions to fix those settings, and here they are:

NEW SETTINGS

Bishops
-------

One Headquarter with the following setings:

Object Type: HQ
Field Owned unchecked
Country 1
Zone 1

One Town with the following setings:

Object Type: Town
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 1

1st Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 1
Zone 1

2nd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 1

3rd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 3
Zone 1

===========================================

Knights
-------

One Headquarter with the following setings:

Object Type: HQ
Field Owned unchecked
Country 2
Zone 2

One Town with the following setings:

Object Type: Town
Field Owned checked
Field 2
Zone 2

1st Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 4
Zone 2

2nd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 5
Zone 2

3rd Airfiled with the following setings:

Object Type: Tower
Field Owned checked
Field 6
Zone 2
===========================

Like I said is still not working right, but is going somewhere...

Now as the settings show it is intended for two countries, Bishops and Knights.
Well for some reason Rooks come into play and they get two airfileds that should belong to Knights, and Knights take one airfield that should be on the Bishops' side.

So each of the three countries have two airfields with the above settings, because Rooks sneak in, somehow.
Now I can chose the airfield that I want to take off from, which is a good thing.
The only (bad) thing is that Rooks should stay out, so the other countries have 3 airfields each, as designated.

Myself I'm thinking now that there might be something wrong with the settings for the Town that belongs to Knights, I'm talking about the Field value that is assigned to the Town. I'm not sure what a good value that would be. Any suggestions?!

look at the top of the TE for settings, then field setup and you can assign fields to certain countries.

Well guys thank you for the interest that you showed in this subject!!
Each piece of information that you gave me was welcome, and helpful. Again THANK YOU!

Now as Easyscor pointed earlier at one of Skuzzy's comments in a different thread about one of the HQ not showing in a map because it was placed to close to other objects... well I got that on my own clipboard map, the HQ assigned to Knights doesn't show on the clipboard map, everything is very close toghether, it is a tight terrain, but well that HQ not showing doesn't bother me a lot, because it shows and works in the actuall terrain, even if it is missing in the clipboard map.

Now Raptor! THANK YOU man! you've been great help as well, your last tip and the ones before fixed my terrain and now is working as it was intended from the beginning.

Now this version of the terrain is ready for battle, and I'll put up a host in the afternoon.

For the future versions I'll have to figure out terrain elevations and clouds... well those will be the subject of different threads that most likely I'll ask for you help again guys!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
