I know the Savvis backbone network has taken a big **** the last few days and may be affecting lag, etc.

I don't know about frame rates though but it seems logical that if the network was crapping out they would go down like when you go to a big furball or tank town and there are tons of people in the area.

Just guessing though...

PS by 'taking a big ****' I mean 'taking a big poop'

Evertything works in tandum.  Soundcard, video card, harddrive, modem (dial up), Network card, and the internet if playing online.  Anyone of these card and will cause FPS to suffer.  ie, harddrive, a 5400 rpm hard drive can have a hit on FPS more so then a 7200rpm, also if the HD haven't been defraged in a very longtime.  Winmodems will have a hit on FPS more so then a regular modem as the Winmodem uses the CPU to work instead an onboard chip on modem to control it.  Soundcard can have a hit on FPS if a cheap soundcard, playing to many sounds at 1 time, not fully directx compat, old drivers.  U name it, anything can have a hit on FPS.  There just to many things to list that can cause a hit on FPS.  Video card being the biggest one and soundcard being second which most people overlook most of the time.  Most people don't think that a soundcard would do that but it does, more so then U believe.

Yes, I realize that the sound video harddrive etc, has a part, but say you are getting 65fps conistently with a cable modem and now the net is laggy, the fr is going to be effected at this point all because the net is laggy? That is the question in general. I don't think I have ever seen a fluctuation because the net is laggy on my end. Not to say that it doesn't happen but my inquisitive mind just has to know the truth!!!!!!! <>

packets being delayed or dropped will cause studders due to net being laggy.  If your network card is not functioning properly or bad drivers will cause hit on FPS.
