What am I missing?
« on: June 12, 2005, 06:54:59 PM »
I honestly don't understand.  And, yes, getting very frustrated.  These two scenarios happen frequently:

1.  Everyone is working on a base.  Field is capped.  Town is down.  I go get a goon, come in with troops and everyone is gone except the enemy, who has now recovered and shoots me down.

2.  Everyone is working on a base.  Field is capped.  I bring a bomber and the 10 guys flying cap tell me "check six" while I'm on my bombing run.  I get shot down while fighters vulch.  (Sometimes there is actual cover at altitude, but all too often everyone is at 5K vulching.)

Yes, this is a complaint, but it is also a serious question.  What's going on here?  What am I missing?  These two things happen time and time again and it's getting frustrating flying 20-30 minutes in a slow mover just to get shot down because everyone has either left or won't help.

Or is this just the way it is?

Are you in a squad?  There is no one in charge in the MA, so your kind of on your own, unless you are in a squad.   Squads work together to do things like this.  But by yourself in the MA, you can't count on others looking out for you.

If your looking for a squad, take your time and check them out before you join.  Find one that flies like you like to fly (bomber, fighter etc.) and find one with people you like.  Most good squads will have web pages you can check out.  You can also learn from a good experianced squad.

Have fun, and enjoy the ride.

And along with that, if you think a base is going to need a goon, hang back away from the base and make sure they are ready for the goon on the range channel. Make REAL sure (like ask 5 or 6 times on the range channel till they get irritated and yell"YEA BRING THE %^&*!# GOON!!!")

Try:
- Getting a flight of 17's to over 20k
- Lining up the drop
- Seeing (through the bomb site) a lone P 51 climbing desperately to intecept you
- being blown to pieces just seconds before the drop by the second P-51 that came up from behind.

When your in a bomber you have to plann your attack and keep your SA up on the drop.

Working with a squad makes a hell of a difference though

If you play for the Knights look us up, we typically don't have this problem due to the fact we do everything ourselves or we work closely with another respected well organized squad.
It is frustrating I'll agree, sounds like you need to link up with the right group.

Ive answered you in a previous post, but heres a couple other ideas.

Dont expect anyone else to save you..EVEN if you are in a squad, but your chances are better.

Learn to shoot the bomber guns. They are lethal.

Most fighters attack you when you are on your run. Give em something special. Dont drop. Wait. Standby in the tailgun, and whack em when they think u are busy.

    Be atleast 12-15k in alt.

Always be looking around. Guys drop in on you like spiders sometimes. Nothing ruins a Tempest or 262s day more than an alert bomber guy that cuts their high priced ride short.

As for gooning. I myself do it very little. The reason is just as you mentioned. I go to drop the FH and get yelled at. So I hit something else and get a goon. By the time I return, all the fighters are rtb w/ vulches and I die. If they want bases let them take a goon. Thing is..most guys dont care so much about the bases as they do the fight. You may be hoping the goon gets in, but the guy beside may secretly be hoping it doesnt so the good fight continues. Its odd..but thats how it can be.

Im Rook..come fly with me sometime..and I'll try to help ya out.

1.  They ran out of ammo (not really a crime) or the enemy brought in reinforcements to kill the vulchers?

2.  I can see how you lost one bomber to a fighter but I don't see how one fighter could stop you.  Jump on the guns as soon as you get the check6 fire a 2 second burst from over 1000 yards out and kill the fighter.  Then you can go back into bombing.  If that does not work, try dive bombing :p   People dont vulch at 5K and if you really flew for 30 minutes you should be above 10K.

Here's an idea. Grab a fighter, wing up with somebody you like and shoot down some bad guys. Might be fun eh?

whiskey, i shot ure lone 17 down the other day. (for those who didnt know, he was going for the hq). whiskey, u should always take a formation, because it means u have more guns and more bombs. ure lone bomber was an easy shot for my 163, so uve just gotta be more careful. for future reference, dont attack an hq in 17's, they just dont carry the ord required. even a formation of lancs wont do it sometimes. always fly the right plane for the job

It's a tough cross to bear brother but I for one hear you. However if you're to lead one has to accept being frustrated by the abhorable ignorance of the unwashed online masses.

You need to demand the respect you're due for your heroic and selfless efforts.

Sometimes it needs to be spelled out, using only capitol letters of course, to all on channel 2 that you are the defacto General-in-charge and for all players at destination "X" to do exactly what you say in order to win the war!

GEEZ, LIGHTEN UP.  The man was just asking a question with one of his 11 posts.

Perhaps you should also explain to him that he should bow before you.

SixWhiskey, yes, that's just the way it is.

You are, apparently, not playing airplane in a manner that Westy finds acceptable or the question you asked offended his sensibilities..

i dont got enough perkies as it is and i like upen my lancs to kill 1 dang t 34 or wirble its fun droping 42 bombs

In my humble opinon....errr  IMHO, there are three things to remember about flying bombers:

1. you're flying them too low if the con on your 6 is anything but a comet, TA-152, or jet.
2.  you're flying them too low if you can see green guys vulching.
3.  you're flying them too low if you can look out the front and not see the curvature of the earth.:D
