Is this guy nuts?

Or do you, like me think this is a neat idea.

first when I read the titlle. then I became more convinced when he said

Another one that had my head shaking was

He seems to have missed a simle solution to that problem. or he doesnt have a hardware store or Home Depot around he coulda picked up one of these

Heh, this guy is actually one of those folks whos website I watch. You all may remember him as the gentleman who started to build a cruise missile a couple years ago before suffering a barrage of mysteriously timed tax audits.

He was also on an episode of Junkyard Wars, using his pulsejet expertise to make a racecar, if I remember correctly.

Oh, and yeah, I've thought about it. I'm still looking for an expended big ol' turbo to convert into a jet engine, because I gotta love that sound!

Mmm, neat. A switch to a turboshaft & gearbox would be better for the kart imho. More torque the better. He needs to make a visit to the wonderful world of kart racing though and pickup a disc brake system, they're not expensive for 1 caliper/disc on the rear axle.

Wouldn't work, indy. It's a pulsejet. No shaft to couple to, and installing brakes is just an admission of pessimism.

Ahh, I was busy reading his stuff about DIY turboshafts. Looks like a better alternative than the pulsejet for kart power

Brakes would work though, just needs a single fixed axle instead of spindles. The axle doesn't even have to be powered neccessarily. Stop the axle, instant friction... and I wouldn't call it pessimism... more of an attempt to stop anybody remotely like my friends from driving *through* the garage door.

edit: I don't like the single-axle brakes on karts much myself. An accidentle tap of them locked the rear axle & sent me spinning off a track @ 55mph 1-1/2" off the ground. I was not a happy camper when that happened.

Next step: Pulsejet powered motorcycle. If 'loud pipes save lives' like the Harley folk say, then I'll be the safest cat on the streets.
