Beefcake, thanx for the info... I didn't realize it was that bad.

Of course, by continuing to bring my business to a "cinema" I am enabling a bad business model. I think I'll stay home until the movie companies get their heads out of their asses.

You people are going to the wrong cinemas at the wrong times. I haven't had a bad experience since LOTR: Towers, and that was only bad because we were stuck on the front row in an IMAX theater (our fault, showed up late).

However, I do tend to go earlier in the day, just after lunch when there's virtually no crowds if heading to a regular cinema. Also, y'all would probably change your minds if you could ditch your kids & head to an Alamo Draft House, which serve alcohol & good food.

The commercials need to stop though

Your right.
My pockets arent deep enough to just buy a system like that on a whim.
And spending $2,000 on a cheap system just to watch TV and some occasional movies is not very high on my priority list right now. And wont be for the forseeable future LOL

I do drool when I look at them though. I just cant justify the price

See now if the movie houses were smart, they would band together and refuse to run the movies unless they got a larger cut of the ticket sales

Another good time to go is around dinner time around 6:00.
Actually thats a good time to go to alot of places. the mall, Home depot. etc

Your right about the commercials. bring bag bugs bunny and road runner cartoons! LOL

But you can walk in just before the start time and miss most of those commercials, which unfortunately are here to stay.

Yup, but supposedly we'll be getting commercials on HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, & the rest of the premium channels in the next couple years. They'll be between the movies, not interupting them, but they'll be there nonetheless. So much for paying the extra $20/month to avoid them.

skyprancer.... we call them "movie theater"  This is, like all American english, a much more accurate description of what is really going on than the foppish brit version.

I like movies but go a lot less now.   the "movie theater" is a good place to go when in the afternoon when it is 105 out or when there is something that I have been waiting to see or some grand spectal with fantastic effects or scenery or...there is a good kids movie to take the grand daughter to.

I like movies a lot.  I have hundreds of em..  I have a 62" TV with surround sound.   It is very close to the movie theater experiance for me with none of the hassle.

Go to maybe 6-10 a year.   I will definetly go to see the new "land of the dead" and "serenity" and still end up buying both of em.

I have to agree with lazs on this. I have a decent home theater with hundreds of DvDs and I still prefer to see movies in the theater. There's no home system that beats it. The big screen and dominant sound is just too cool. The crowds and consessions can be avoided.

For those with kids... I understand how it would be an issue. But, where in the hell can you take your kids and spend less (other than the park)? They're just too expensive. You should keep them locked in the garage and only let them out for school and yardwork.

I don't get this.. how can you see a movie then buy it?

Do you watch it again and again? Do you read the same book over and over again?
I see a movie and read a book once, don't you lose some of interest when you know what happens next? how it ends?  just wondering ..

yes... I may watch some movies 3 or 4 times over the years.

As for books... any book you have read when you were 10 or 20 years younger or even... before a life changing experiance... any of those books will read completely differently to you now..

unless you are an idiot.

I didn't say you were an idiot.

I said that if you did read a book or watch a movie more than once and didn't get something new from it.... then you would be an idiot.

You claimed you never have so... your idiocy or lack thereof is still a mystery.

Tell you what... read the Great Gatsby again and tell us if you got anything different from it this time compared to when you read it in junior high.

and yes... you probly will know what is going to happen.

Don't get me started on TV's....

I don't go to the movies anymore, and I sure as heck don't own one of those hideous, overpriced, 5-foot-screen monstrosities.  I mean, my god, I see TV's for sale for $7K nowdays and for that ripoff price all you get is an ugly lump of plastic that sticks out like a sore thumb in almost any room as opposed to naturally fitting in.  No thanks!  I'd rather stick with my 20 year old RCA, it still works great.
