This Place Really Sucks!
« on: June 24, 2005, 11:35:46 PM »
http://www.benihana.com/

I had dinner there once and I hated it. The  food was unremarkable, the service was poor and the tableside chef/acrobat/juggler wasnt even asian which made it somehow less intersting.

I really wanted to like it and looked forward to going there but it just didnt measure up.

Do any of you remember any restaurants that really let you down?

I don't know, I'm just not much of a restaurant "gourmet".
So I don't go for the 4/5 star joints, so I don't get all excited
and then get let down.

The being said, there are very few places that do food that well.
Not many really impress me, regardless of the build up.

I love to eat out.

I like going to Restaraunts too.

Really, no I do. I disagree with Virge here. I can't keep track of the great restaraunts here in the DC area. This is about the only thing I like about this ****hole. I'm a decent cook, but my tastes in food vary a lot more than my abilities in the kitchen can keep up.

I've moved around a lot, and everywhere I go one of the first things I do is start trying out restaraunts. I know that I need a decent Italian place (Which was once and aparently is again, a place to take dates), a good greek place (I can't cook greek to save my life), a good Sandwich delivery place, and a 24 hour Diner. A decent Pizza place that also has good wings is needed between September and early February.

I have never been to a Benihana, though I've been to a few places of the same theme. To be honest I don't get it. I mean, my family has strong ties to Japan, and we've always had a lot of Japanese and asian influences in our dining. But the specticle of these places really doesn't do anything for me. When I end up at one of these places I usually will just order from the Sushi menu and have it served while everyone else gets thier chopped chicken or steak or whatever.

I've always liked Benihana, though I've never been there for dinner.  There was one near where I worked in Beaverton, and they had a decent lunch special for $6/person when you had two people.  I guess the meat was above average, but nothing super special, but I really liked the way they prepared the yakisoba, and really dug the fried rice too.  Good stuff.

Biggest suprise was a place in Wenachee, Washington named the Windmill.  It was open from like 5pm to 9pm and we wouldn't have went, were it not for the recommendation of one of the locals in the retail office we were setting up.  One of the best steaks, and probably the biggest T-Bone I've had...plus it was on the company tab, which prolly made it taste even better. :)

Biggest disappointment would be the Old Iron Skillet.  I was told it was wonderful, and looking at a menu full of BIG steaks, I was delighted.  I only ate a few bites of my steak, as it was simply disgusting.

You know you are in the best Japanese restaurant around when they give you a plastic hat that looks like a samurai's haircut.
