Choosing Video Card

When looking at video card tests at Toms Hardware and other sites, what game would be closest to AH in Frame rates.

May buy card  now but move to newer system a little later

Don't know why they wouldn't test with AH  :)

Intel p4 2.53
Intel d845pebt2 system board
533 fsb
512  ddr 333 Corsair Ram
Win XP pro svc pk2
nvidia gf4 ti4200  64mg

Hi HC,

with your system specs, if ur not gona upgrade CPU, id not get top end cards. id get 9800 pro or x800 for ATI or  6600 GT or 6800GT for Nvidia. used the saved money and get another
512 of ram, if ur not running win98.

the Nvidia 6600 GT 256meg is a great little card. should preform great with new system later  6600s for less than 200 right now.

The new 7800GTX is apparently about as fast as a 6800GT SLI setup.  I don't know if they'll release an AGP version, but the PCI-x version is actually in stock at newegg.  $599 isn't cheap but you want the best, right?

For benchie comparision to AH, 3dmark2001SE seems to correlate pretty well on the graphics side of things, but at some point AH ends up cpu limited for framerates so going up in vid card speed will get you better image quality but not higher framerates.  For your system, above an nvidia 6800 or 6800GT is in my opinion where you'll see almost no FPS increase but may still get better image quality.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

9700 tweaked to 9800 standards through flashing cheap and fast. expect min 40-46 fps in furball at 1280x and low sampling.

Currently, there will be no 7800 family card available in AGP.
