well exactly, thats why i said you can get AGP socket 939 boards, then you said who wants that??!?!?

when i brought this system PCI express on AMD platform was miles off, Nforce3 had only just come out and was rather buggy beta bios's everywhere. I also had an AGP card......

Im getting an Asus A8N SLI Premium soon......hopefully

Thnx Whels but Im not looking for something i can upgrade in the future cpu-wise.

I buy a new computer every 5 years.

Right now i have an AMD Athlon 1.4ghz (runing at 1ghz cause the thing overheats and shuts down if its ran at 1.4ghz.. sigh) with a 60 gig HDD (more than half of it empty) a gforce 4 128mb ti4200 sblive 5.1 and 1 gig pc2100 ddr ram

Had it since 99 so im overdue for a new system hehehe.

Problem is i find it real hard to fork out 600 bucks for a video card... its something that ill have to upgrade every 2 years anyway.

What vid card 256mb would you recomend thats around 200 dollar range?

xcept for a Nvidia 6600s  the only other good card  close to $200 is the $280 Radeon X800XL PCI-E 256MB  with preformance, close to the nvidia 6800 ultra.

now thats a price i can dig into. I learned long ago to pick 'almost top of the line' stuff because it was half priced and almost as good.. it wont hurt me pocket and id get great performance from it.

Thanks whels. With this info I can buy my new machine :)

im an ATI fan, however i wouldnt say the X800XL is anything like a 6800ultra!!!! except for in HL2 ;)

X800XL is comparable to a 6800GT in most tests, peaking at ATI fave games like HL2 vs the ultra, but falling to 6800 levels in Nvidia friendly games.
