I saw a brand new compaq for $450 including 15" LCD, 2.4 ghz pentium 4, and 256 meg ram.  I'd say avoid slow used computers unless you're really hurting on cash.  Anything below 1 ghz will probably struggle to run winxp and newer software.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Does it come with monitor? which?

This computer may be used pretty well for WEB/Mail and Very Basic Office tool. Because of lack of RAM - and that is in case you will continue to run Linux.

You will not be able to run WinXP on this amount of memory...

Yea you can. I have XP installed on a P500 that only has 128 megs of ram that my son uses for his homework and AIM and surfing and such.

Not able to do much more with it other then run OLD games but it works
