Lethality-Endurance changes?
« on: June 28, 2005, 11:26:19 AM »
Seems like for a week or so now I've been taking a lot of one ping kills from base acks, fighters and buff gunners. Has lethality been turned up? Endurance turned down? I've also considered the fact that nothing at all has changed but what I'm registering on my end may be less than what it actually is in terms of plane hits. Maybe a savvis issue?

Anyone else finding this to be true?

I don't think he's saying its hard to kill ack. I think he's seeing the same issues I am, that nearly every hit registered seems to be lethal. I've been chalking it up to lag/net issues. I'm guessing that my FE isn't registering the hits immediately, but catches up a split second later, effectively giving me all the damage simultaneously. This could be completely inaccurate, it's just a guess. I've noticed my connection has been incredibly poor lately, compared to several months ago, so I'm under the assumption that delay is a culprit here.

FWIW, hispano armed planes will kill an ack with 1 or 2 hits anywhere on the pad- a 2 second burst is serious overkill.

I wonder just how much lag plays a role.

If the ack was going to kill you when it hit you does matter that it happens a second later (due to lag) or in that instant? My mentioning that is you are flying along and having AI ack shooting so you probably would have taken the hit anyway.

As opposed to lag in a dogfight. If you experience lag in a fight then you may be delayed in countering with a move that you've made hundreds of time. That lag will place the guy as already having fired at you when you are just countering at the merge.

I got shot up hard for a few days about a week ago that I contributed to lag. I found out my DL bit rate  on roadrunner had deteriorated to 3 kilabits per second. I believe that is equal to my original 300 baud rate dial up modem from 14 years ago.
I tried DL'd a 7 mb file and it said 54 hours to finish.:(

I was able to sort out the problem and things have settled back to normal again at 40000 kilabits a second.

My rule of thumb is if your enjoying yourself one second and the next sat in the tower not knowing quite wtf happened listening to a whole shed load of pings, your bad connection is probably involved somewhere.

2 second blast? you need to aim better...can usually be done with one shot, save the rest of that ammo for planes
