I was staying a few miles west of there but drove over that bridge a few times this weekend.

The little jetty on the northwest side of that bridge is a Coasty station and the area all around that bridge is where people park their boats and party all summer long. If you haven't been by there you should drop in and see what trouble you can find. I hear its one of those must do things in north florida if you are there with your boat.

I towed banners along that beach for two years in a Super Cub, N7772D.  Just to the west of the "98" and in the "M" on trial mode is the Eglin NCO Club.  I saw at least a 6 ft Hammer Head shark there.   Along the "jetties" I lost count at 100...mainly nurse? sharks.  What has happened there is nothing new.  The sharks mate there and migrate yearly to that area.  The only thing different this year is that one decided to eat human instead of fish.

Damn, I didnt see this until today. Oh well, I stayed drunk the whole weekend, jacked up my back waterskiin' (probably as a result of the intoxication) and then sent a guy to the emergency room from an unfortunate fireworks accident. Lets just say that I'm the wrong guy to insure proper safe use of fireworks, intoxicated or not. :)

Damn Grits hope that back gets better and leave the fireworks alone. :D

The thing I laugh about with these shark "attacks" is that people think the sharks are just there nice and easy all the time. Hell look at it this way. The boy who got bit last week was out nearly 100 yards (from what I read) in waist deep water with dead bait fish and he was fishing...hell son in my book you just entered the food chain and earned yourself a darwin award.

There was a guy I talked to at Seaside on Sunday who had just been snorkling and said he saw at least four different 3-5 foot long nurse sharks inside of 100 yards off the beach. But as I said if you are in the water then consider yourself part of their ecosystem and play it smart.

But at least I didnt say "Hey y'all, watch this..." before I did it. :)

RE: Sharks

They were in the ideal place to get bit, just like the kid on Pensacola Beach 3-4 years ago. He was in mirky waist deep water at dusk (dawn and dusk are the worst times). His dad was also fishing at the time he was attacked. The girl the other week I didnt hear the circumstances, but the boy was doing just about everything you would do if you were trying to get a shark to attack you. Sharks dont seek humans to eat, but if you put yourself in the wrong situation, they will do what their instincts have trained them to do and then you are SOL.
