Here is the cockpit shot of the Spitfire Mk V from the Duxford airshow that the 71st Eagle Squadron posted on their site (I hope they don't object to me posting it):



As you can see the cockpit framing is quite thin on the Spitfire too, although the cockpit is open in that shot.

as waffle said .. the thin glass of the "new" p51.... is that modeled? the thickness of the glass and the armor penetration?

one would think it is ALOT easier to get the pilot hit through one of those than say a 109 with those flat hard panes of armored glass.

wow the new cockpits are looking really
great!  who ever is doing the guage lay out is making a much better balance of realism to simulation functionability. As far as i can tell everything that is included is rendered acurately, and the guages are just a bit styalized for readability.
