Ports, and Ships (Fleets)
« on: June 20, 2005, 09:03:32 PM »
Hello guys!

I made a small terrain with two airfields, and added one port for each airfield, but now how do I add a fleet to each port? and how do I tell the fleet where to go? I mean how do I make the fleet to follow a certain path, and how do I assign a fleet to each of the ports?

Thank you!

task groups are on the object list to the right of the long list in the TE. Its called"cvtg0". After you place it save and close the TE, then re-open it and click the "task group" tab in upper right, now you can set its course.
Go back to the object tab and make sure your port is assigned as a port, then select the carrier and double click it to get the object properties menu. In the bottom right of the object properties you see a blank drop down menu, click it and select the port you want to assign it to.

Hi Raptor!

Thank you man, I got as far as selecting the carrier, well how do I select it, because I don't see it anywhere now.
I assigned all the points, but every time I assigned a point a box came up saying "Way point touches land" even if it didn't touch anything. I assigned all the point as Patrol points, I surrounded the island with all the points back to where it started.
So, now how do I select that carrier?
I'm not able to select that carrier no matter what I click...

Thank you Raptor!

Like the airfields, you need to give the carrier a new field number.
Say you have A1 and P2, cv should be C3

make sure you dont start the task force too close to land, I suggest 5 grid spaces away from land though it may work closer.

This seems to be a bit over my head... :-(
I think I made a mistache from the beginning, when I assigned the fleet to the port... I think.

That terrain I messed it all up, I had to start one from scratch. I guess I was trying to jump ahead, and maybe I didn't even added the ports in the proper way.
So if you could start with me from the beginning...
Now I have two airfields, how do I correctly add a port to each?

I only have two airfields, nothing else.

Thank you!

add a port. when you place it, it willask for the field number, give the port a number that has not yet been used (should be 3). Now in the selection list doubleclick the listed object (which should be the port) and the object properties list will show up. In the list that says object type, I usually call a field a tower, then a list will show up in the bottom right of the object properties window saying airfield. Click that and select port. Click ok.
Now place a task force about 5 grids away from land, when it asks the field number, give it a new one (should be 4).
Save and close the terrain editor. Open it again, select the carrier and open the object properties window, in the bottom right click the blank box and select the port you want to attatch the CV to (3). click ok.
Now you can click the task group tab in the upper right corner of the TE and place the waypoints.

Hello Raptor!!

I followed your latest instructions up to a certain point, and you will see where I stoped, as from there on your steps didn't match to what I was seeing in TE.
Here it is the run down:

Now I have the following:

1 Airfield with these settings:
-------------------------------
Object Type: Tower
Field Owned: checked
Field: 1
Zone: 1
Airfield selected in selection box

1 Airfield with these settings:
-------------------------------
Object Type: Tower
Field Owned: checked
Field: 2
Zone: 2
Airfield selected in selection box

1 Port with these settings:
-------------------------------
Object Type: Tower
Field Owned: checked
Field: 3
Zone: 1
Port selected in selection box

I added a fleet (task force) the way you said, far from the ground tiles.
I highlighted "cvtg0", and placed it 5 squares away.
When the "Select Field" came up, for Field I selected "4New", and for Zone I left it as 1.
I saved and closed the editor, on closing I saved one more time as I was asked if I want to.
I reopened TE, selected the carrier and I double clicked on it in the "Selection List" box.
Obect Properties box came up, with teh following settings:

Object Type: Ship
Field Owned: checked
Field: 4
Zone: 1
Nothing selected in the drop down box that is beside (in the right side) of the "Group ID" box.
Clicking on the drop down arrow, there is NOTHING that can be selected, it is simply blank.

At this point I stopped as your instructions are different from what I see here, I don't know
what, where is wrong. I saved and closed TE.

Thank you Raptor!

ok this happened to me in a recent map, where it says "object data" type the field number of the port you want to attach it to. I'm not sure why it's not showing up in the list but that has the same effect and the ships can be captured

nvm....
Its not working, what gives?

1. My port is P13, selected tower and set it to port.

2. I then added Cv's called them C14.

3. saved and closed, reopened.

4. highlighted my carrier and went to properties, next to the empty drop down menu, where it says Object Data, I pot the number of my port, which is 13.

5. I then save and build map.

6. Host my server and when someone catches the port the enemy cv is still knights:confused:

Whats wrong?

You have to sink the carrier after you capture the port. Then when the ship resets you capture it if you still poses the port.
