A 17-year-old takes a stand against a school Web-filtering system that screens out Planned Parenthood but not the Christian Coalition.

I am greatly impressed with young Daniel Silverman. He gets it.

I am very glad that schools and colleges in Holland didn't take the easy way as they did at TUSD. At my college no type of filtering whatsoever is applied while the board believes that the students mostly are wise and responsible enough to use the internet and things as FTP, telnet etc. for useful purposes. Of course there are always lots of students looking for porn or just surfing for other than educatory purposes but here they seem to realize that's inevitable and any filtering renders the internet unusable as a learning tool.

And on the banning of the student that addressed this moronic policy, here it would never be accepted by either him, his fellow-students, the board itself or higher authorities like the education secretary. It isn't a compliment for the system there if this kinds of things can happen unopposed there!
