hi man. you gave me a lot of help with my gunsight, so ty for that:aok  after the success of those, i was wondering if you could give me a hand, because i'd like to start work on a skin. couple of questions really. what program to use (i have a trail version of paint shop pro), what size it should be, and what colour depth it should have. then, i wonder whether you could just step me through it simply, like where to start, how to do it, and how to know where the actual plane frame is in relation to the skin. ive never actually used a proper image editor (apart from my sight), and have no idea about layers and things, but im a fast learner, and a quick guide ought to do. maybe you have a link to something that can help, like a previous post?

ty very much in advance my friend:)

I've got a pretty full plate right now.  Best thing to do would be checking out the custom skins forum - folks in there seem pretty helpful. Read the help file that came with your software and if there are any tutorials that'll help you with the interface. You can also check out a 1/2 priced books or other bookstore and see if you can find a book that's easy to understand and has tutorials.

If you start getting into it, I'd reccommend picking up an used / older version of photoshop. Play with that for awhile, then if you really get into it, you can pay the upgrade price for the current version.

But for the basic questions - All aircraft textures are 1024x1024 reduced to an 8bit depth. you draw it in 24bit, then reduce it down to 8 bit. Just be sure to save the reduced version as a different name - mistakes happen:) and you could accidently overwrite your working file.

Also check out the skin editor. Thats where you'll be testing /looking at the skins. You can pick a plane then theres an option to save or export the skin files. There will be a file with the default skin on it.

Usually you'l copy the panellines on a layer, rivets on a layer, ect...
put your paint on a layer, on an on...

then you can adjust the layer levels.
Once you get it to where you like it - reduce it and place it into the skin viewer and check it out.
