Sarin, I have the same MS stick, 3 of em, been using since Wb2..
but all of em are now a little loose, and that "5" button seems to always stop working,

So i signed up for Ebay and grabbed 3 more for 20 to 30$, we may have been in a bidding war :D
I was happy to see all the new ones were hardly used and in great shape, one guy even threw in Janes F-18 sim/game

Also,,,,Jets Roll scaling all at 100% and hardly any DB or damping
from what ive learned from trainers in WB and AH, thats not how ya want it?

This is mine, same scaling for Pitch and rudder, though rudders DB and damp higher to avoid nose bounce since twisty stick

any advice welcome..

Can your problem be resolved? Maybe. As mentioned before, uninstall any Saitek software. It's all crap. Unplug your stick when you do it. Now open up Control Panels Gaming Devices and highlight the Evo>properties>test. Move the handle around, twist the rudders and work the throttle. Hit apply and OK.

Now open up the joystick settings in AH, click the default settings box. I noticed your ROLL sliders were all set to the max with virtually no deadband or damping. A mosquito flying by your Evo will send input to the game with those settings. Make sure all axes (roll, pitch, rudder, throttle) are set to default settings. The far left slider will be just off the bottom, and as they move right...they'll all graduate upward. Notice too that deadband and damping are raised up a little. Now do a stick calibration and see what you get in the air.

I calibrate my EVO everytime I enter AH and then about every 30 minutes just for safe keeping.

One final word, for some reason using the EVO in MSFlight Simulator does weird things to the stick. If you're using other flight sims, unplug the USB and recalibrate in Win CP's before flying AH

Good luck!

Okay ty if i cant get the spiking sorted out. I will just buy one from bestbuy and buy a warranty on it.

On my MS Sidewinder Precision 2 USB stick I removed the small black rubber feet from the base then removed the screws that hold down the metal plate to the base. I then removed the screws that hold the large square black plastic retaining cap and shaft. There is a small gray retaining cap that you will have to remove which just pulls off the shaft to gain access to the x and y axis shafts which are attached to the potentiometers and springs. The shim which will have to be made from a thin piece of plastic (about a .015 to .031 thick) will go between the shaft and the side of the retainer case. A plastic milk jug is about the perfect thickness. Depending on the ammount of play in your stick you may need to shim both sides. Youll need to cut the plastic shims and experiment with size to get them to fit. I cut a V groove in one end so that it stay put on the shaft and keeps it aligned. If you need more info feel free to email me and Ill help. Also I will try to get my hands on my friends digital camera and maybe take some pics fo those of you who are interested in this fix which works great! Also make sure to recalibrate your stick in windows and in game after the fix. I dont take any liability for damages you may do to your stick while trying this fix. Another note as well.. you'll need to clean out the existing grease and need to regrease the ball and socket with some white "NON PETROLEM" based grease after you do mod.

Hope this helps. :aok

Hiyas Jet.....

I wanted to try this for the "play" in the stick when it is centered, and the distance it needs to move before it actually changes the pots. As i see it, it is the electronics in the pots that makes it spike. There is a coil of wire meant to vary the amount of resistance according to where the "wiper" is against the coil. The variance is what gives the "amount of movement" to the game, imho. So to correct your spike, you need pot.

(yeah, i know, long way to get to that one)
thanks Saringas for great post.

Nope this fixes the slack or play arround center. After a period of time the joystick will become worn and you will be able to move the stick up to an inch without having it respond. The shims correct this problem. As for spiking you should have gone with what everyone recommended and gotten your stick locally or at least gotten a sidewinder.

SarinGas Thats why I dont buy ch and siatek products anymore. I have a MS Precision 2 usb joystick that I have been using for 5 years and its still working fine. I have a backup that I got off ebay for 20 bucks. The one Im using now has shims in it to reduce the slack arround the center. The ms sticks are simple to work on and I couldnt have been happier with mine.

Did you download the drivers from the Saitek website?  Not sure if it will help, but can't hurt.

Have had my evo for almost 2 years without much problems.  The only thing I have to do is calibrate my stick in game when I first log on.

Loved my sidewinder, but it did break down after 2 years.  The problem with MS sticks, they don't make them anymore.
