A few things to note. There isn't any consumer-grade DVD media (blanks) which will univerally workin all DVD players.
Also, the cheaper your burner the more random the results. Besides making frequent coasters they wil also burn badly and you have skips and anomolies.
And if you're capturing/converting video to DVD format on your PC you may want to look for a fast HDD with a large cache (8mb). It makes the capture and conversion much smoother and just about error free. Anyway.

http://www.videohelp.com/ and check on the player(s) you intend to play these homegrown DVD's on. You can check to see what media has been reported to work best and also what dvd blanks your burner works well with - or not.
