Throttle spikes
« on: July 16, 2005, 04:36:52 PM »
Last night I lost stick control a couple of times. It was like all of a sudden someone unplugged my stick. When I reboot, I get the stick back. The only thing I notice is my throttle is spiking some (the line isn't straight but a little jagged). Could this cause me to lose the stick in flight? Could it also cause me to have no bullets(i.e., bullets that have no affect)?
Its the Saitek x45 throttle.

I guess not much is known about throttle spikes. I converted the stick part of the x45 pair to a throttle (I wasn't using the stick anyway, but a ch pro stick) by removing the sping and using the y axis of the stick for throttle. No more throttle spikes, and I think I have bullets again.

Just an observation - I think spiking in controls can affect hit %
 FYI - nothing more.

After getting rid of the throttle spikes. I still managed to lose stick control off line after a sudden movement. This is not like losing it to the "don't move your contols so rapidly" penalty. When I lost it, I lost it for good. Exit flight, exit game, restart game - still no stick. The only way to get back stick is to reboot.  I think it has to do with the CH control manager program. I've uninstalled it and after MA action, and about an hour of flying in the TA, I have not lost stick control. Hopefully thats the problem. I post this in case someone else with CH gear is having a problem. The ch control manager may be flakey.

The X45 seems to be fragile in its wiring. I've lost 7 of them to bad computer electrics.

Spiking can make the stick lose contact with the computer if it's bad enough. It's probarly not due to spiky pots though but due to bad cables. Interesting that the CH mannager should do this to you. I have no problem with it and I have CH mannager installed and use it for pedals.

Ghi. If your stick has been unused for 2 years the pots or contacts on the pots actually porbarly need some cleaning or spraying with electric contact fluid. Try it, it should help.

Maybe your cable, plug or usb-connector on the motherboard is bad.

Did you try plug it into another usb slot?
