No more high speed ditch = no ditching
« on: July 20, 2005, 04:58:26 PM »
I just went and tested out what it takes to ditch in a P51B and D and I'm not that happy.  In the B I had full flaps and had that thing going as slow as possible with the most gentle of touch downs and I crashed (about 90mph btw).  The D I was able to ditch but I suspect just by the skin of my teeth.

Balderdash... I just did a 175mph ditch easily. I tried a 200mph in the 47N, but I nosed down too hard and went "poof".

It's about vertical speed, I bet, not horizontal speed. Keep your fpm descent nice and gentle and high-speed ditches are easy as they used to be. Just don't try it at 400mph lol

I suspect this may just involve the 51s.  They seem to sink into the ground when trying the ditch.  This may be causing the problem.  All other planes I've tested seem to work fine.
