Just how did the bomb drop mechanism work? Those bolts look pretty serious, and tehy'd have to be...but when the bomb falls, the "bolts" arent attached anymore

The bolts i think your talking of are just sway braces to snug the bomb down and help keep it in place. The actual release mechanism engages the suspension lugs along the top centerline of the bomb.
