A truck tire hits a flagged wire, a roadside bomb explodes, a handsome private with shredded leg screams in agony. In the bloody chaos of the moment, his soldier buddies panic. One pukes.

"People don't act like that when an i.e.d. (improvised explosive device) goes off. They make us look like idiots. We're not idiots!" said a first lieutenant previewing "Over There," the new TV series from Steven Bochco ("NYPD Blue," "Hill Street Blues") that debuts tomorrow night on FX cable network. It's set in Iraq, hyped as "true to life" by producers and hailed by critics as "unflinching" and "gut-wrenching."

"Bogus" was the preferred adjective among the eight soldiers -- most of them Iraq vets -- viewing the series pilot last week at Camp Murray, headquarters of the Washington State National Guard in Tacoma.

"Thank God that's over," said a master sergeant as the credits rolled.

What the heck did you expect. It's a hollywierd production promoted to gain audience share.  "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." I wouldn't be surprised if they put light sabers in the hands of the "insurgents".

it's part of the 'back to the 60's' fad.

First, 'let's protest'. It's fun! Bellbottoms, hip huggers, mullet haircuts, tie-dyed t's, revival protest music'.. even hanoi Jane's out doin her thing again.

Next, lets get the war casualties and 'atrocities' front page, every day. Who's gonna start a war dead daily count on the nightly news first?

next, hollywood hops in.. lets scare the bejeezus outta the moms and their kids.. if we get Mom's and kids scared, we feed the 'anti-war' movement, sell more hippie stuff and period piece movie remakes!

Next, we'll be patronising the local mullas.. and before long, walking around in a sheet with a headband will be totally kewl.

LOL.. what a great pick.. a John Wayne production, and a bad propaganda failure.

Try this:
 'Hearts & Minds' and 'Last Year in Vietnam'.

The war in vietnam was not a hollywood issue till almost 10 years later.. Apoclypse Now, etc.

It was however a TV Media issue, notably the Nightly News.
