Two Questions for Skuzzy or anyone with the knowledge
« on: July 27, 2005, 01:06:38 PM »
OK guys I need some input from you all. My old PC took a dump last month. I put together a list of items to make a new PC but would like input before I decide if this will work good or not. The following was suggested to me. Want to know what you all think.

Motherboard: Gigabyte SLI NF4SLI S939 ATX PCI-E GBT K8NU-SLI
CPU: AMD Athalon 64 3500+ S939 RTL
Memory: Corair 2GB (4-CMX512-3200C2PT)
Hard Drive: WD 36GB 10K 8MB SATA
WD 80GB 7200RPM 8MB SATA
Power supply: Enermax 535W 20+4PIN SLI V2.0 EG565P
Zalman Silent Cooler for the CPU
Nice case with several big fans
standard DVD burner & DVD player

Graphics card: 2 options here
1) Gigabyte Duel 6600GT 256 PCI-E 3D1-XL
2) Use 2 Gigabyte 6600GT 128MB PCI-E
Was told the Duel card is the same as using two 6600GT cards.

I was also told that to get the full effect of the SLI the game needs to support it. So my question is, does Aces High support this technology and if not will it in the future?

Anyway; if any of you have some suggestions please let me know. I am by far NOT a computer expert and would like any constructive input. Please give me your suggestions in terms a PC illeterate like me can understand.   :)

Thanks, hopefully I will have a running PC with in a couple weeks. Starting to get withdrawls....LOL

I really cannot comment on any AMD system as I am have never used them myself.

On SLI, the game is not what needs to support it.  There has to be a profile done for it from NVidia, or you can create one (check the hardware forums, as I think there is a profile floating around, but cannot swear to it).

I'm not sure you need 2 GB of memory...but then again, it's your choice.

I think it was Widewing who made a topic about the profile, but someone came over and did it for him and he did't post it. Not sure if it was him though; that was a couple months ago.

Thanks JT, that info helps a lot. This is the reason I posted here. I need this type of info so I can make a smart decision on what route to take in making a new PC.
