Quality Headsets

I am looking for some good headsets with mic. I have been through all the $50 and under sets Plaintronics, Boss, Sony. I break them all or they just fail after a few months of use.

What I really want are some Quality aircraft style headsets.  I would like to see the price under $150. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm sure you'll hear all kinds of testimonials about various brands, but IMO they are all crap.  I have experienced issues with just about every headset I've had.  At some point, pieces fall off, one or both sides of the headphones fail, or the mic fails, or the mic boom won't stay put.  Honestly, the best luck I've had is with the $10 no-name variety you get at Radio Shack or Fry's.  They don't sound great, but they do the job.  I only wear them when playing video games anyway.  I've got nice speakers for everything else.

I need a headset that doesn't fly into tiny pieces when it hits concrete at a great rate of knots.... any ideas?

Nope... but I get great results from a 19 dollar Altec Lansing from Target. Better than the most expensive set I've bought (70 bucks) and seems to last quit awhile.

I have a Plantronics from Best Buy. Its great and has held up well over the last 2 years of me throwing it off my head in disgust.

LOGITECH-none other. GOT rid of my sound card Audigy 2, so far things are working, less stress on the CPU.

SENNHEISER, if your looking for the BEST qulity gear then these boys got it. Cheap as chips too ! BTW im waiting for the PC165 to ship to England.

BTW stay clear of the PC 160 if your going to buy Sennheiser, also read some reviews on the net before you buy anything.

I don't think you can find it anymore but Sennheiser used to make a version of the 280Pro that had a built in mic boom. Best sounding and constructed headset I've ever had. Can't remember the model number anymore.

If you do find some place selling one let me know I want to get a backup.

Just bought the $19 set from Radio Shack...their brand.  Good sound, good mike performance.  Comfortable.  Not close to audiophile standards, but great for Aces High...which is the only thing I use it for.

I've been using the Koss CS-100 and like it a lot.  Very good sound quality and range (even low frequency for games like Battlefield 1942) and excellent mic quality (great voice sound quality).  They are cheap (at about $15 from buy.com) and perhaps not the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, but they seem sturdy to me.

Sennheiser PC150's here.  Had them for a long time.  Awesome.  Sennheiser isn't cheap though.

any with thick wiring , most of the time the cheapos stop working because the conductors only consist of a few hair thin strands and they break after repeated bending/use.  Find the first thing to go is the mic wires with flexible mic boom, then one or another of the earphone sides crap out. Also the inline volume control wires screw up, so now i make it the first thing i do with the control is tie a loose knot loop in the wires that leaves the control in the center loop so there are no pull stresses on the wires going into the vol. control thingy to break off.

PC155USB Sennheiser here. I use the USB side when traveling and using the laptop otherwise I just direct plug them into the sound card on the desktop at home. I have had them since they came out and before that I had some cheap crap headset speaker/mics and they never worked very well or very long. I may break down and buy newer PC165USB and hand down this one to my oldest son for his computer.

I have a very nice Telex headset (big aviation communications company).  Don't know the model or how much it was.. I'm guessing around 60 bucks.  Telex does make quality headsets so I would check them out on their site or in a store some where.  I got mine at CompUSA 2 years ago... haven't seen it there recently though.  Great microphone quality but it bugs your ears a bit if you use the headphones.  What I do is I just use my 150 dollar Sony headphones and wrap the headset around my next and adjust my mic so its near my mouth.  Works well.
